“Swami gave a class in Washington for colored students and had an earnest class of about fifty people. They held a social gathering on March 5th, where Swami played the Hindu Esraj, and the Burleigh Singers sang Negro spirituals. On this occasion, Swami appointed Mrs. Minnie C. Mayo as the leader of the Afro-American Yogoda Satsanga Association in Washington.

“This center has a beautiful home of its own at 14 Iowa Circle, N.W. Public meetings are held each Sunday night at 5 o’clock with a lecture, music, and healing vibrations. On Wednesdays the Afro-American Yogoda Center students meet to transact business and review the Yogoda exercises.” . . .CONTINUED

SRI DAYA MATAJI: Let me read something prophetic that Gurudeva said, in this very hall, in 1937: “It is a new world we face…. and we must mold ourselves to the changes. An absolute necessity for the new generation is the recognition of the divinity of all mankind, and the sweeping away of all divisive barriers. I cannot conceive of a Jesus Christ, or a Lord Krishna, or the rishis of old calling any man a Christian, a Hindu, a Jew, and so forth. I can conceive of their calling every man ‘my brother.’ There will be no new order built on contempt of other races or on a ‘chosen people’ complex; but rather on recognition of the divinity of every man who walks the face of this earth, and on recognition of the common fatherhood of God.”

Portland Center will celebrate the May 10th birthday of our revered paramguru, Swami Sri Yukteswar, with a special service on Sunday May 11 at 11:00 a.m.

As with all commemorative services, the traditional offerings include a flower or flowers and a monetary donation in an envelope, symbolizing our devotion, gratitude, and loyalty.
Rose petals will be provided for offering during the service, or you may bring your own flower if you prefer.
