Several Eyecare Medical Group employees took part in this year’s Make-A-Wish Maine Trailblaze Challenge in Carrabassett Valley on the Maine Huts and Trails system on September 20. Our employees were represented in several ways, with Lori Thompson providing support at the aid stations, Johanna Dresser serving as a hike lead walking over 19 miles, and Carl Bradbury completing the full 23.4-mile hike as part of the Eye Walk for Wishes team. This inspiring event brought together 87 hikers and 30 volunteers that raised over $378,000 to help grant wishes for Maine children facing critical illnesses.

👁️💛 September is Cholesterol Awareness Month! 💛👁️

Our physician highlight today is Dr. Sise! After residency in the Washington DC area, and fellowship at the esteemed Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Dr. Sise joined EMG in 2015. Specializing in cataract surgery and corneal disease, when Dr. Sise is not seeing patients he enjoys skiing, hiking, and is an accomplished bagpiper!

Lisa G, who is an RN in the ASC, was awarded the HeroesFirst award, which is given to celebrate outstanding healthcare professionals who go above and beyond to enhance the patient experience. In choosing Lisa as a finalist, the award stated, “Lisa is the epitome of a healthcare hero. Whether it is 4am or 4pm, Lisa will be in a great mood ready to tackle anything that comes her way. I have worked with Lisa for 4 years and she has always been such a please to be around. She has the love and respect of all her coworkers and patients. It is my honor to present her with this HeroesFirst award”. Lisa is in the running to be a national finalist, which is determined by voting, which is open from September 17-October 3. Meet Jess K, who works with Dr. Shah and Dr. Daly as a technician, scribe and surgical tech. When not wearing all those hats, she preps surgical charts and spends a lot of time in the background troubleshooting electronic medical records issues. When asked what she likes most about EMG, she says, "Of course, I love my coworkers and the comradery, but what I Iove most about working here is making a connection with patients and seeing them through their surgical process; answering their questions, being a familiar face for them in the office and ASC, and seeing them afterwards when they can see!". Outside of EMG, she loves to exercise, spend a lot of time with her family hiking, running and swimming, as well as baking with her daughter. Jess is very enthusiastic, energetic and knowledgable- thank you, Jess!
