32 years ago, astronauts performed space walks to fix the Hubble Telescope, which was producing blurred images due to one of the mirrors being ground to an incorrect curvature. This resulted in "spherical aberrations", which can also happen in the eye. It occurs when light rays passing through the periphery of the cornea and lens come to a focus at a slightly different location than light rays passing through the center of the cornea and lens. Wavefront measurements are necessary to diagnose aberrations, and treatments such as intraocular lens implants and refractive surgery are options. Regular eye exams are the first step in your journey to good vision! (The picture shows an image before and after the correction to the telescope mirror)

🕯️ On Sunday, we remember — December 7: Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. On this somber anniversary, take a moment to honor the 2,403 Americans who lost their lives that day, and the bravery of those who served.

The generation who witnessed that day is dwindling. While the Department of Veterans Affairs doesn’t track exactly how many Pearl Harbor survivors remain, only about 120,000 of the 16 million Americans who served in World War II were still alive as of recent reports.

In 2024, fewer than two dozen Pearl Harbor survivors attended the ceremony in Hawaii — a stark reminder that this living link to history is fading.

Let us pause, reflect, and pay tribute—not just to the fallen, but to the few still with us, whose courage and sacrifice helped shape our history. 🇺🇸

Did you know that squinting your eyes can be a decorating technique to spot unevenly spaced lights on your tree? The act of squinting limits the amount of light entering the eye, which helps create a clearer image and can also make light sources appear star-like with radiating rays.

On Saturday, EMG hosted the Fall Paraoptometric Seminar for area optometric technicians. 20 techs from as far away as Brewer joined us for a full day of education and networking. Thank you to the staff of EMG for sharing their knowledge and fostering collaboration with our optometric colleagues so we can better serve our patients.
