Today we celebrate Juneteenth “Freedom Day” and remember the suffering endured through slavery and we continue to advocate for equality.

Freedom Day marks the day that Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, the last confederate state to keep slaves, and informed the enslaved individuals that they were free nearly 2 and a half years after the emancipation proclamation was signed into law by president Abraham Lincoln January 1, 1863.
