…I have an office space that’s really quite nice overlooking the river with the Kent St Bridge in the background. If you follow Beckett Counseling on Instagram there are a few pictures to get an idea of the space.

I’m looking for fully licensed LPC or MSWs (or another counseling license) that have their own biller that would like to potentially share the space with me as it does not get as much use as it could. If you, or if you know anyone looking for such a space please contact me. It’s really a great way to get started if you’re just starting out and it’s also a great space if you only want to see a few clients a week. Thanks for looking out! - Rob

…four years ago this month, in the middle of a pandemic, BCS opened it’s doors to clients. I wasn’t sure at the time what the future would bring but reflecting on these last four years, it’s brought me many wonderful clients. If you’re one of them, and you’re seeing this, thank you! Tonight’s reflections:

Clinical depression isn’t always a precursor to teen su***de. The chemical environment of the teenage brain is an unstable place. Less inhibition and extreme, intense emotions are hallmarks of the teenage mind. I don’t believe it’s a stretch to say that all teens, at one point or another, experience some variation of “mental illness.”

Whenever we lose one of these loved ones to su***de, we begin to ask questions, theorize, speculate, and search for reason. My thought is that it’s possible to have a “mentally healthy” teen, one that shows no clinical signs of depression or suicidal ideation, and in a moment of emotional instability, they commit to an impulsive, permanent act.

This is an incredibly frightening prospect for a parent, as it should be. No teenager is immune to these intense emotions & no amount of “talking to your kids” can completely mitigate potential tragedy. That doesn’t mean we stop talking about it, on the contrary, we double down. We remain relentless in the pursuit of our children’s mental health mindful of the notion that this could be any of our kids at any time.
