Update!

I hope all is well and everyone is doing alright through this difficult time period.

I apologize for the lack of posting on this page. It will become more active from here on out.

We are planning to have Dmitry's celebration of life "Castine weekend" in August now. The last weekend of August seems to be when the majority of his friends and family will be back in the area/ not at sea. We want All of Dmitry's friends and family to be apart of this celebration and do it up the way he would have wanted...in Style!

If you think you are going to be available the for the last weekend in August leave a comment so that we have a better Idea of who else can make it.

There will be a lot more information to come about what will be going on, where people are staying, ect.. We want input from all Dmitry's friends and family for ideas! so lets collaborate and make this page active!

Share ideas for the celebration, photos, videos, stories, whatever!

Cheers everyone!

Hello Everyone,

As many of you know already Dmitry Setrakov has passed away. He left this world on the night of January 11th (the day of angels). He was surrounded by family, and passed in a peaceful and painless way. He put up one hell of a fight, and stayed positive right till the end. He endured the hardest of challenges mentally and physically and still was able to see the positives in life. Dmitry had a way of attracting a great number of high quality friends and connections throughout his life, and this fundraiser along with all the other support was a great representation of that. Without all of your generous donations and support the last three months would have been even more challenging. All of the funds raised were imperative to mitigating the stress of Dmitry's situation. He was incredibly touched by the support of all types. The Go Fund me will remain open for the time being and all remaining donations will be put towards Dmitry’s great celebration of life.

Dmitry wished to have his ashes spread at sea near Castine Maine. We were discussing going out on a boat in the middle of January for his service, but Dmitry (who was always concerned about everyone else) said, " Let's wait until the spring time when it is beautiful out and everyone can plan a long weekend for a celebration of my life". Dmitry was always looking out for the best interests of his friends. He didn't want anyone to have to take a boat out in the middle of freezing January on his behalf. He also wanted everyone he loved to be able to attend and have a great time celebrating his life.

So that is exactly what we are going to do. Over the next 4 months we will be planning a long weekend event in Castine Maine that will honor the legacy, personality, bravery, and love that was Dmitry Setrakov. We will share stories, memories, slideshows, and movies. We are going to secure a vessel in which we can sail from Castine and spread Dima’s ashes at sea. We will have big backshore bonfires where we can share our stories of Dmitry. All ideas and connections to make this event possible are greatly appreciated. We are planning to have this event take place mid to late May. The Facebook group “Dmitry’s life line” will be used to organize and plan this event.

I’m very sorry for everyone’s loss, Dmitry will be missed greatly. He was a beam of strong energy and smiles. He will be remembered for his adventurous and loving personality. All of his friends and family will be able to come together in May and share the memory of Dima!

Take care and God bless

Well, Christmas is just around the corner and I hope everyone has a great holiday tomorrow!

🇷🇺In Russia we celebrate (read drink a lot more and eat a lot more) Xmas so much, we actually use the week leading up to New Years as the pre-game for the Big Day. And it doesn't stop there, we go solid until the last day and that's on the 7th! ....

🎅I'm super grateful for all your support and encouragement along the way. A lot of old friendships have been rekindled and that's such a good feeling. Friendships to me are vital. I'm lucky I acquired so many good ones over the years.

🙏Our donor list keeps growing and I'm still shocked at how close we're to closing our goal. I think last I checked we had 146 donors and shares in the 500 range. Thanks so much to all you wonderful people! You will all be receiving a brand new drop of gear from a nautical lifestyle brand I'm starting. I will contact you personally on GoFundme and collect your address for the first shipping of Dead Reckoning Co. The rest of the limited collection via Instagram and a website. I intent to donate a significant amount of sales to cancer charities that actually do the work. 💪

Time for another update. I've been mostly off social media due to my continued decline.

These days walking is becoming very difficult as for everyday on bed rest, I lose 3x muscle strength. I don't think I have enough energy for physical therapy to reverse it at this point.

My anemia has a full grasp on me. Last week I received my 2nd blood transfusion in a week and instead of giving me an energy boost it just made me more sick. I'm mostly just in and out of sleep. Even when I sleep, I'm terrorized by vivid nightmares that leave me restless.

It's not looking so 🔥. Around Dec 10th another panel of bloodwork will tell the docs if anything from this treatment has a chance to save me. After that it's not looking so hot for me. They held back my chemo today because I was so sick, hoping by next week I'd tolerate it more.

Instead of treatment, we talked about what nobody wants to talk about: hospice and survival duration off treatment. I'm not trying to scare anyone or giving up, but reality needs to be addressed. It's just part of my nature to be in the know and have everything planned out.

I hope everyone has a very safe Thanksgiving week! 🔥🤘

Actually managed to have a decent day today guys! I had a late morning (as opposed to my usual 0630 sessions) which was so nice to sleep in for once...

Dialysis went well and I got some good news from my dietician there. She said based on my recent blood work, I've been doing well monitoring my sodium, potassium and phosphorus levels...meaning I could have a cheat meal!

So I'm currently enjoying a Wendy's baconator (how do people eat the whole thing lol) and my first french fries in 2 months. 🤤😃

It's all about the little things. Seriously. My situation makes me appreciate the smallest things in our daily lives we all kinda take for granted. Ok, back to the 🍔✌️

Another rough week in the works, but that's nothing new. The only way is forward.

Yesterday I finished radiation and spent 7 hours receiving my chemo treatment for which I'm paying dearly today. My oncologist said it's still too early to tell if it is working and we will need another whole cycle (month) to make that determination.

My blood counts also dropped so low that I will require a 2nd blood transfusion in less than a month to boost those red blood cells. They directly affect my anemia, aka energy levels. It still freaks me out when they put a stranger's blood directly into my veins. Wouldn't it freak you out too?

Persevere. Survive. One day at a time. That's my goal right now. Thanks everyone for the amazing turnout with the fundraiser, a whole lot of stress has been lifted off my shoulders. Appreciate all of you!

The Calm Before the Storm

Three and a half years ago I was sitting on the uninhabited beach of Iguana Cay in the great Exuma Islands enjoying a campfire with my crew, our yacht peacefully at anchor, awaiting the boss's arrival the following morning. Little did I know a hellish storm was brewing near.

That week my kidneys completely failed during the 10-day charter. I refused to believe I was "sick" and continued pushing through till everyone was off the boat. Upon my return home I was diagnosed with rare blood cancer and that has been my battle since that day.

I thank Tyler and all of my great friends for their support during this battle. For the last 8 months, I have been sharing raw and unfiltered takes into my daily wins, losses, motivation and inspiration to keep going on my personal page.

Many people, some of whom I don't even know, have reached out and thanked me for sharing as I suppose many can find inspiration and motivation from my journey. So I wanted to continue to do that here and reach even a broader audience.

I couldn't do it without you all. Thank you for following along !

Dmitry is a 32-year-young Mariner that is currently fighting for his life. For any of you who have had the privilege of spending time with Dmitry, you know that he is a young soul with a heart of gold. His spirit is filled with adventure and love. He is a graduate of Maine Maritime Academy and has worked on a variety of ocean going vessels over the years making friends and memories from all over the world.

He has had a plethora of challenges thrown at him since he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Multiple Myeloma In 2017. Dmitry has been battling the illness for almost four years. After much treatment (Chemotherapy, Radiation, and Dialysis) he reached a point where he thought he was well enough to return to work in the yachting industry. He persevered through dark times and against all odds returned to sea to follow his dreams, just to have his illness return, sending him back to a hospital bed … once again.

He has recently relocated to Portland Maine from the West Coast, and upon his arrival his cancer has taken a turn for the worst. He has come to a point in this fight where he needs support from his network, the community, and anyone who can relate to his situation. His friends are all young adults that are spread across the country and world. His support network in the northeast is fairly small at the moment and there are only a few key players keeping his ship afloat. He needs all the help and comfort in the world right now.

He is currently renting an apartment down the street from Northern Lights Mercy Hospital receiving chemotherapy treatment. Along with Chemotherapy he is on dialysis three times a week due to his weakening kidneys. Staying alive is a full time job for this young man.

I know there are a lot of people in the greater Portland area and beyond that would love to help Dmitry, but don’t know how. We have organized a few avenues to directly help Dmitry. Welcome to Dmitry’s Life Line!

Ways to Directly help Dmitry

1) Home Made Meals!
If you are in the Greater Portland area and have the ability to chef up something nice for Dmitry we will put you on a rotating list for meals to be delivered to him at his apartment.

2. Dmitry’s Call List
If you are in the area and want to help one of the biggest ways to contribute is to be a helping hand. Dmitry is going to have certain circumstances where he needs to phone a friend for some help, whether it be a ride to the pharmacy or just someone to chat with. Reach out to Tyler Lewis with your contact information and be there for a man in need.

3. Weekly Unboxing events
Dmitry will be opening packages that he receives in the mail via live stream. He has many friends from all over the world so I assume he will be receiving some interesting packages. Put whatever you want in a box and send it his way…. It can be funny, Bizarre, edible, alive, warm, interesting ect…. Contact Tyler Lewis directly for his address.

4. Dmitry’s Life Line GoFundMe
Lastly we have organized a GoFundMe for Dmitry. He has been battling cancer for almost 4 years and hasn’t asked for any financial support from his network (or anything for that matter). He is incredibly selfless, even in such a vulnerable state. As time passes and he progresses further in his fight against cancer he is going to need finances to cover things like Medicine, food, rent, house cleaning, and other bills. His focus needs to be on recovering, not on how he’s going to pay his cell phone bill. Any amount donated is incredibly appreciated and will directly cover Dmitry’s medical needs and comfort measures during this incredibly rough time.
