Floyd Travis Groves, age 86, of Bowling Green, KY, passed away on February 21st, 2026 at the Hospice of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green. Mr. Groves was born in Springfield, TN on April 13th, 1939 to the late Hershel Bradley Groves and the late Earline Stout. He was grounded in faith, kindness and a quiet strength. On Saturday, February 21, 2026, he was healed by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ after a year long battle with liver disease. He was one of eight children being the last of his siblings to leave this life.
He graduated from East Robertson school in 1957 and went on to sign up for the National Guard Reserves where he served his country for 8 years. Traveling to Cuba in 1961 for the Cuban Missile Crisis. And on to Germany on a peace mission. Since he never went into active duty, he was never recognized as a Veteran which always seemed to bother him. But he was a hero to his family.
He met and married, the prettiest girl in the whole world according to him in 1958. Helen and he had three children Debbie, Dewayne and Jeff and later added their fourth when they adopted a beautiful 6 month old they happily named Katie. All four of his children became his world.
Travis retired after 32 yrs from Dana Industries in Franklin KY, formally known as Sealed Power. Wanting to stay active, he went to work for the Portland City Parks and Recreation department where he loved mowing and making the parks in Portland beautiful.
On Sundays you would find him leading worship. Singing his favorite hymns. Church was where his joy was. He loved God and shared the love of Jesus with everyone he met. And still lead people to him until he could no longer speak. As recent as two weeks before his passing.
Travis was homesick for heaven. Ready to see his mom, dad and siblings. And Jesus welcomed him with open arms and surely spoke these words “Welcome home my good and faithful servant. Your work here is done”.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Groves was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Groves; siblings, Janice Woodall, Betty Ann Spivey, Nellie Hackney, Nancy Vaughn, Melvin Groves, Alvin Groves, & Winfred Groves; daughter in law, Tammy Groves.
