Robert “Bobby” Wayne Johnson, age 92, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 18, 1933, to Robert A. Johnson and Elizabeth Moore Johnson, Robert lived a life defined by deep faith, quiet strength, and unwavering love. He carried himself with humility and purpose, guided always by a steadfast sense of right and wrong. That conviction shaped every role he embraced—as a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, a faithful servant of God, and a loyal friend.
His presence was steady and reassuring, the kind you could always count on, and love for his family was the foundation of everything he did.
Married for 67 years, he shared a lifelong devotion with his beloved wife, Ila Dean (Mooneyhan) Johnson. They built a life rooted in faith, commitment, and enduring partnership. Together, they created a family that stands as a testament to his values and the love he gave so freely. They served faithfully for decades at Oak Street Baptist Church in Portland, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters (Betty and Wanda), and beloved grandson (Kyle Zimmerlee).
He was a proud father to four daughters: Karen (Danny) Keene, Carolyn Moore, Dana (Thomas) Lynch, and Amy (Ike) Hurt. Each of them carries forward his strength, his character, and the lessons he taught not just through words, but through the way he lived every day.
Robert was deeply blessed to be the proud grandfather of: Jonathan Moore, Nathan (Holly) Keene, Ryan Welch, Jeremy (Jordan) Keene, Kelsey (Zach) Cotten, and Noah and Kayli Lynch. To each of them, he was far more than a grandfather—he was a steady source of wisdom, a gifted storyteller, a protector, and a living example of what it means to lead a good and faithful life.
He was also the cherished great-grandfather of seven, each of whom brought him immeasurable pride, joy, and countless moments of happiness.
He was a dedicated employee to TRW Ross Gear for 34 years before his retirement. Those who knew him will remember his steady presence, his kind heart, and the quiet way he made a lasting impact on everyone around him. He didn’t need recognition—his life spoke for itself.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we are grateful for the time we had with him and the legacy he leaves behind. His faith, his love, and his example will continue to guide us in the days ahead.
