There’s a little extra sparkle at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center this holiday season.

Design teams came together to decorate exquisite trees, in hopes of providing comfort for those passing through our doors.

Many of these volunteer groups have been giving their time to these trees for years, if not decades, as part of Providence Festival of Trees.

That event had its final showing last year in Portland, but the desire to bring joy through their creative collaborations did not waver. Our foundation team and the volunteers decided to try and have the festival’s spirit live on at several hospitals and care centers.

Safeway, the title sponsor of the continuing festivals in Medford and Seaside, agreed to sponsor the Portland trees this year, as well.

The Safeway-Providence Festival of Trees events are continuing in Medford, with public viewing Dec. 6-7, and Seaside, with a community open house and gala on Dec. 6.

At Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, high school volunteers are getting hands-on experience while making invaluable career connections in the health care field.

Isabella and Nico dedicate their afternoons to volunteering in the sterile processing unit at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. While many teens might be on the field or working part-time jobs, Isabella and Nico are fully immersed in hospital life, donning scrubs to assist in sterilizing medical equipment.

Under the guidance of their supervisor, these high schoolers help scan and store equipment sets and check for quality issues like broken locks or loose filter lids. “What surprised me is how everyone is on task, but community and communication is the biggest thing,” Nico says.

Providence clinicians have been using the AI tool DAX to transcribe patient notes during appointments. This innovation enables them to devote their full attention to patients, enhancing their commitment to world-class care and human connection.

"Before this, when I was conducting an appointment, I would write quick notes or type while my patient was talking,” says Dr. Marcie Drury Brown, a pediatric endocrinologist at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.

In addition to fostering stronger patient connections, this technology significantly improves work-life balance for our doctors. “It’s given me more of my evening and weekend time back,” Dr. Drury Brown says. “It’s helped me consider staying in medicine longer."

A belief in making the world a better place is at the root of Mark and Mary Stevens’ generosity.

They invested in Providence Portland Medical Center and Providence St. Vincent Medical Center as part of the Tomorrow Starts Today Campaign — and patients are already benefiting from better, faster emergency care because of their investments.

Now, they’re extending their generosity to bring healing and hope to survivors of violence.

Learn more about plans to build a new medical-forensic clinic for adult survivors as part of the Providence S.A.F.E. Program. The facility will reside in the new Family Peace Center, which is set to open in spring 2026. It is the first such facility of its kind in the nation — bringing together more than 20 agencies to provide survivors of violence with the services they need in one place — from legal services and education workshops to a food pantry and childcare. 🔗 http://provhealth.org/6181tRpIv
