The best ethics discussion I have heard in a long time!

"Social Work Ethics in Today’s Political Climate 2024"

This is free for anyone to listen to and just a small fee if you want a CE certificate.

Key questions emerging from our current political times are explored, with the goal of using the NASW Code of Ethics and other resources to answer the question… Is it ethical?

We’ll reexamine social workers’ ethical responsibilities in the face of professional, personal, and political values that at times do not align. As always, NASW’s Ethics Table Talk will offer a safe space to have the vital conversations needed to advance ethical social work practice.

Pull up a chair and join us! Register today!

Ethics Table Talks are Ethics continuing education opportunities hosted by NASW focusing on different areas of Ethical concern within social work practice

In Oregon, individuals can give up to a total of $50 per year (couples filing jointly $100) to political action committees, and get every cent back when they file their taxes. As the political arm of the NASW Oregon Chapter, SWPAC is committed to bringing the voice of social work to the Oregon Legislature. SWPAC conducts interviews with candidates and we find out where they stand on mental health, healthcare reform, social services, revenue, the budget, judicial reform and other issues important to our professional values. Exciting new affordable housing in Medford, Oregon!

"New Spirit Village is a creative re-thinking on the development of affordable housing. While this one project of 87 homes will not solve the housing crisis in the U S, or even in Southern Oregon, it can serve as a prototype for building affordable communities because it encompasses so much more than just a new building type. Rather, it is a whole new approach that creates the opportunity for a way out of multi-generational poverty."

It is within two blocks of shopping, including drug store and grocery stores, and is one block from bus transportation. The site is currently vacant and already zoned...

"As most of you know, Oregon ranks at or near the bottom of states in terms of access to behavioral health services, and the study shows that. According to the study, Oregon needs to build 3700 new beds for adults to meet our state’s current needs. That breaks down to new 650 beds a year, for four years, and a price tag of $170 million a year, for four years. It’s a daunting task, but it’s what our state truly needs. I am planning on bringing a bill that funds the total need, approximately $830 million. We’ll see how much the legislature can actually afford to devote to this important need. Stay tuned, and watch for a more in depth hearing on this report in September during September Legislative Days in the Joint Committee on Addiction and Community Safety Response." -Representative Rob Nosse

We'll also discuss another pathway to licensure (other than the ASWB exam) and the interstate social work compact allowing social workers to practice in multiple states. Get a beverage or your breakfast and plan for two hours. Email dstone.naswor@socialworkers.org for the Zoom link and invite another social worker or social work student to join you!

"Yes, current kicker policy is inequitable. Most communities of color receive a disproportionately smaller share of kicker dollars relative to their share of Oregon’s income tax filers":

There are ways to reform the kicker that would produce more equitable results — reforms that would be good for Black, brown, and white Oregonians

BREAKING NEWS:
"Republican senators who participated in the longest walkout in state history cannot seek reelection in 2024 or 2026, the Oregon Supreme Court ruled Thursday.

Democrats need at least three Republican senators to show up each day to conduct business because of the Legislature’s two-thirds quorum requirement, and Knopp (R-Bend) told reporters Wednesday that Democrats would need to entice lame-duck Republicans to participate if the Supreme Court ruled against them.

'If the court sides with us, it’s a clear victory,' Knopp said. 'If it doesn’t, I think we still win because our members literally have no reason to show up, and so in order for them to show up, they’re going to want to see that they’re going to be able to make a difference.'”
