The Blood Code

The Blood Code Dr Richard Maurer uses "The Blood Code" to help you understand test results and be the healthiest you

Dr. Richard Maurer is a licensed naturopathic doctor who has specialized in metabolic health and performance for decades. His book, The Blood Code: Unlock the secrets of your metabolism [2014] provides you the tools to understand your blood test results and the plan needed to recover metabolic health. Dr. Maurer’s personal and familial trend toward type 2 diabetes has motivated him to empower people to reverse prediabetes, type 2 diabetes and surrounding conditions like weight gain and thyroid imbalance. In 2022, Dr Maurer was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the age of 55. And again has used his condition to evaluate best practices available to live his healthiest life. Since many components of Parkinson’s disease, like conditions in everyone’s life, are not controllable, Dr. Maurer identifies scientifically valid and effective therapies that bring you to your healthiest future. Blood tests remain an invaluable tool to rule out “co-morbidities” and to identify your optimal and personalized diet, fitness and nutritional needs.

I am heading out to the upending Parkinson’s fundraising climb today Send 2 upEND Parkinson’s - There is some very cool research going on about the benefits of rock climbing for people with Parkinson’s. This past week I have seen news articles claiming that low carb meals, especially breakfast, help control blood sugars and weight and even reduce the risk of dementia. But is it "news" if it's something we already now for sure?

Advice to consume a low carbohydrate breakfast could be a simple, feasible, and effective way to manage postprandial hyperglycemia and lower glycemic variability in people living with type 2 diabetes.

When traveling it’s easy to fall off helpful routines. Walking in Paris is over 20,000 steps. But in a small hotel room - I kind of miss the rock steady type boxing workouts. Andy Warhol’s exhibit got me inspired but imagine, we could punch.
Fortunately too, part 2 of the trip is biking in Portugal.
With a little age and tremor - remaining physically active while traveling is wildly important.
If I could not walk, well, I’d have set the trip up in a place to swim. What have you found that works for your fitness while away from home routines

Taking Vitamin D even at the beginning of COVID infection remarkably reduced serious illness during infection. A critical piece of the research reinforced that low vitamin D levels inhibits our immune system from fighting respiratory illness.

AS summarized by the researchers, "“What we’re seeing when vitamin D helps people with COVID infections is a result of its effectiveness in bolstering the immune systems to deal with viral pathogens that attack the respiratory system,”

Bolstering previous research, scientists publish 'remarkable' data showing strong link between vitamin deficiency, prevalent in Israel, and death or serious illness among patients

some days are all one condition in the office. Today was the combination of psoriasis and type 2 pattern of insulin resistance. The two go together. not just circumstantial but rather they are both metabolic conditions. That's right - psoriasis is not autoimmune.
Most patients have been incorrectly told otherwise.
If you know an adult who suddenly has psoriasis - look for the pre-diabetic pattern of high TG:HDL ratios and higher blood sugar. https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fimmu.2021.711060/full

Psoriasis is an immune-mediated systemic disease with associated comorbidities, including metabolic syndrome (MetS) which contributes substantially to premature mortality in patients with psoriasis. However, the pathological mechanisms underlying this comorbidity are unclear. Studies have shown that...
