The dog days of summer are here! This year we are offering San Fu Moxa treatments. This simple topical application, performed 3 times, on 3 different days, goes far in reducing and limiting the severity of winter colds and flu. This practice of "treating winter ailments in the summer" has been practiced for thousands of years and is very effective --- shhh! Preventative medicine is actually a thing!

San Fu days this year are:
This week!
July 30th (10 days around this date)
August 9th (10 days around this date)

This can be done on kids ages 2 years old and up!

Watch this video on the ins and outs of it. Space is extremely limited so message or text (503-312-4223) to set up your appointments.

Many practitioners of Chinese medicine who practice outside of Asia may have heard of "San Fu" while in school or been lucky enough to encounter it while stu...

Research that is catching up to what has been discussed and observed for years.

The My Baby Biome Study demonstrates that three gut microbiome community clusters exist in infants in the United States. These compositions vary on the prevalence and abundance of Bifidobacterium and impact risk for the development of atopic disease.

My summer newsletter!

Over the past few weeks both of my children have had big transitions. My daughter graduated from high school and will be heading off to college in the fall and my son finished 8th grade and will be a freshman next year. Both of these things had multiple events within them, a variety of celebrations....

We are getting closer to kicking off Summer SSP and both MereAnn and I are getting excited. We love running this program and we love the results that we see with our families and kids that use it.
The Safe and Sound Program works with the vagus nerve and in doing so can use bottom up therapy. Bottom up therapy solidifies the ground floor of the basement of our nervous system. It can:
1. Strengthen the mind- body connection
2. Supports lasting emotional regulation
3. Engages where rational thought is inaccessible
4. Accessible for kids who don't always have the words to articulate their thoughts and feelings clearly.

For those of you who know me, bottom up therapy sounds pretty darn close to my house analogy when explaining how Shonishin works for kids. Through Shonishin I can make sure that the basement of the "house" is complete and solid, fixing cracks and leaks. Adding in the Safe and Sound Program makes the long term affects even stronger. Summer SSP provides this along with education, weekly zoom calls that include Q & A and the guidance from MereAnn an amazing play therapist.

You don't want to miss it!

Summer SSP is back! The Safe and Sound Program uses music therapy and cutting edge neuroscience to facilitate nervous system stabilization. When kids use this program the results are astounding. I have been trained in this protocol for three years now and have used it with many families. The results are impressive and gratifying.
It fits perfectly with Chinese Medicine as it reinforces the balancing of the nervous system, the, behavioral challenges and emotional regulation. As I often tell parents when talking about acupuncture for kids, we can get in on the ground floor of the nervous system and influence it in a beneficial and therapeutic way. The Safe and Sound Program reinforces and accelerates that.
Some of the things that it is helpful for and used with:
Anxiety
Auditory Processing
Auditory Sensitivities
Behavioral regulation and resilience
Emotional difficulties
Inattention and focus (like presumed ADHD and school/life attention challenges)
Physical coordination and balance
PTSD
Reading difficulties
Sleep
Social difficulties
Speech delays
Stressors that impact social engagement
Trauma
