Legacy Health

Legacy Health Good health for our people, our patients, our communities and our world. At Legacy Health, we believe that what connects us is the legacy we build together.

Legacy Health is a local nonprofit that provides comprehensive primary, secondary and tertiary care services across the Portland, Vancouver metro area and the mid-Willamette Valley. It's a legacy of health and community. Of quality and innovation. Of respect and responsibility. It's the legacy we create every day at Legacy Health. And it's yours.

Every day, we hear from patients about their experience at Legacy Health.

And more often than not, they talk about their nurse.

As we celebrate National Nurses Week (May 6–12), we’re recognizing the impact nurses have on the people they care for every day. ❤️

Maybe it was someone who helped you feel more prepared, answered your questions or simply treated you with kindness during a difficult moment.

Hearing from patients can mean more than you might think.

We are pleased to announce that Legacy and Regence have reached agreement on a new contract. This means all Legacy providers and facilities will remain in-network for Regence and other BlueCross BlueShield members.

We recognize the stress and uncertainty many of our patients experienced during the negotiation process. We are truly thankful that we can continue to be here to serve our patients when they need us.

Visiting Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center soon? Here’s a quick update on nearby street work.

Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is paving NW 23rd Avenue from NW Northrup to Vaughn starting May 4. Work will take place Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

• May 4–7: Work between NW Vaughn and Quimby
• May 11–14: Work between NW Quimby and Northrup

Sidewalk access will remain open during paving.

After this phase, PBOT plans to improve the section from NW Lovejoy to Northrup, including curb ramp upgrades at Lovejoy and Marshall this summer, followed by repaving in the fall.

During curb ramp construction, sidewalk access near NW 23rd and Lovejoy will be limited. This work is expected to begin no earlier than the week of May 18 and may be subject to change.

Plan your visit by allowing extra time and checking your route in advance.

An accident left pediatric patient Chal with burns across his torso and arms. His injuries were so severe, he told his parents he thought he wasn’t going to make it.

The care team at Randall Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel assured the family that, no matter how bad things seemed, Chal would be okay.

He spent two months in the pediatric intensive care unit, undergoing multiple surgeries, skin grafts and rehabilitation as he worked toward healing.

This June, care for patients like Chal will continue to grow. The new Legacy Oregon Burn Center on the Legacy Emanuel Medical Center campus will open, expanding its life-saving partnership with Randall Children’s.

The center will feature a new pediatric play area and a rooftop healing garden designed to support recovery and bring comfort to young patients and their families.

This kind of care doesn’t happen alone. Donor support helps ensure these programs, spaces, and services are here when they’re needed most.

Watch Chal’s journey and the care that made it possible.

When we talk about health, we can’t forget the role that food plays.

At Legacy Health, our Food Support Program was shaped by what we heard directly from patients, including the barriers some face when trying to access traditional food resources.

So we created another way.

Today, we pack and distribute thousands of food bags each year, working to help remove barriers and meet a basic need that shapes overall health.

Food insecurity can affect anyone, and addressing it is part of what meaningful care looks like.

Gresham firefighter Spencer Tejeda spent four months in the Legacy Oregon Burn Center after suffering burns on 45% of his body while responding to a residential fire.

Today, he’s back home with his wife and two boys—stronger, healing, and grateful.

“The Oregon Burn Center saved my life,” Spencer shared. “Traumatic experiences, as dark as they may seem, there’s light. They hold that light and help you find yours again. Mine was pretty dim, but every single person brought me out of there.”

This June, the Legacy Oregon Burn Center will continue delivering world-class care to patients like Spencer when a new, expanded burn center opens on the Legacy Emanuel Medical Center campus.

Come together with us on May 7 for Salmon Creek Cares.

This annual event brings our community together to support the smallest, most vulnerable patients at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center.

As Southwest Washington continues to grow, so does the need for specialized newborn care. Our Family Birth Center and NICU teams care for infants born as early as 23 weeks, providing critical care when it matters most. ❤

Funds raised through this event help ensure our care teams have what they need to support newborns and families.

We’re pleased to share conversations with Regence have resumed. We know that the contract termination has created confusion and frustration for our patients and Regence members.

Our own Dr. Nathalie Johnson and Merrin Permut recently spoke with KPTV on the cost of healthcare, and how the end of the contract impacts our communities. While it's no secret that the healthcare industry is struggling to contain costs, insurance companies like Regence must work together with us to share the costs to maintain access for patients that rely upon us.

We remain committed to working toward a contract that works for our patients, Legacy and Regence, and we will provide updates as we have them.

Legacy Health’s contract with Regence has ended, and we know many people are trying to understand what this means for their health care.

We’re hearing from families across our community about how this is affecting their health care and creating uncertainty. We understand this situation is stressful.

In an interview with FOX 12 News, Merrin Permut, Legacy Health Vice President and Chief Population Health Officer, discusses the importance of not delaying care and encourages Regence members to apply for continuity of care.

Patients who qualify for continuity of care may continue to receive care at in-network rates for a period of time. Regence members should call the phone number on the back of their member ID card to request continuity of care.

We are committed to working toward a resolution. Our focus is to be here for the community and ensure our patients have access to the care they need.
