Floating in a sensory deprivation tank triggers a deep relaxation response that causes the brain to release high levels of endorphins—natural, “feel-good” chemicals—leading to profound stress relief, pain reduction, and euphoria. The combination of warm, Epsom salt water and zero sensory input decreases cortisol and adrenaline, while boosting endorphins, which can improve mood and alleviate anxiety long after the session ends.

No, floating in a sensory deprivation tank does not make you permanently taller. It can, however, lead to a temporary increase in height due to spinal decompression in a zero-gravity environment.

When you float in the highly buoyant Epsom salt water solution, your body is completely supported, creating a zero-gravity environment that relieves pressure on your joints and muscles. This lack of gravity allows the intervertebral discs in your spine to decompress and rehydrate, similar to how astronauts experience a temporary height increase in space. This spinal elongation is a temporary physical effect. Once you return to an upright, gravity-bound posture and resume your normal daily activities, the effects of gravity will cause your spine to compress again, and your height will return to its standard measurement.

Floating offers significant relief for menopause symptoms by reducing stress, improving sleep, and soothing joint pain through deep relaxation and magnesium absorption. The, buoyant, Epsom salt-infused water helps lower cortisol levels—a key trigger for hot flashes—while easing physical discomforts like aches and insomnia.

Floating is great for rehab because its zero-gravity environment removes pressure from muscles and joints, while magnesium-rich water reduces inflammation and aids muscle recovery, accelerating healing from injury or intense exercise, relieving pain, and calming the nervous system for deep mental and physical rejuvenation.

JUST BRING YOURSELF
We provide everything you need to float!
No need to bring a swimsuit or towel, towels are provided and swimsuits are discouraged. If you wear contacts, you’ll want to bring a case to keep them in while you float. Feel free to bring any personal items you may want for after showering, such as a hairbrush or deoderant. FLOAT
Consider these important suggestions before your appointment to optimize comfort during your float:

You may want to eat at a light meal beforehand, both hungry and full floating can be distracting. Avoid having too much caffeine, as it will be easier to relax without. Avoid shaving to reduce any stinging sensation.

Float therapy can significantly help with head pain like migraines and tension headaches by reducing stress, easing muscle tension (especially in the neck/shoulders), and absorbing magnesium (a natural muscle relaxant) from Epsom salts, creating a sensory-deprived environment that calms the brain and lowers cortisol, though clinical research is still ongoing for some conditions like TBI. It promotes deep relaxation, which can prevent headache triggers and improve sleep, offering a holistic approach to pain management.

Wondering what The Float Research Collective does? They raise money for clinical studies on Floatation-REST at universities and hospitals and construct dedicated float clinics and a data platform to support research. They perform clinical trials on conditions like anxiety, PTSD, hypertension, chronic pain, and eating disorders. The data collected from recreational float centers to build a large dataset for broader research. Their aim is to get floating recognized and prescribed by doctors as a natural, effective treatment.
