                                            Happy Medical Assistant Week!
We spoke with our Lead Medical Assistant, Tia-Marie Sconzo, about her experience at OHSU.
What makes working at OHSU special to you?
I’ve always known I wanted to work as a Medical Assistant at OHSU. A family member was once a patient here, and the compassion they received from each staff member really stuck with me. Witnessing that level of care firsthand made a lasting impression on me. Even on tough days, a kind word or small gesture from a coworker can completely turn things around. The dedication and passion I see in my colleagues every day are truly inspiring.
How has your role helped you grow professionally?
Being surrounded by such driven and compassionate employees pushes me to bring my best every day. Whether it was freezing mornings at COVID testing sites or the fast pace of clinic days, I’ve learned how powerful kindness and empathy can be. Every role I’ve taken on has helped me grow. By staying open to feedback, focusing on improvement, and keeping a positive mindset, I’ve grown into my role as Lead MA. Now, I get to support and mentor new externs, which has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey.
