❔ What is the Work-Ordered Day (WOD)? It's the heartbeat of the Clubhouse! WOD provides structure to the for members and staff to work alongside each other to keep the Clubhouse open.

Clubhouse activities are organized around a Work-Ordered Day. Tasks are divided into work units that support the running of NorthStar while supporting members individual goals. Tasks of the units include meal planning and preparation, record-keeping, advocacy, and new member outreach. Members choose work according to their personal goals and interests. NorthStar Clubhouse is a safe space where members living with mental health issues can step out of social isolation and into a healing community. Clubhouse members can pursue goals and opportunities through meaningful volunteer work and developing strong connections with others. No one has to struggle with mental health alone!

This week we had the privilege of testifying at the Multnomah County budget hearing in Gresham! We made a specific request for continued support for the peer-run employment center. Thanks to our new Director Naomi and Members John and Abbey for advocating for the work happening at the Clubhouse!

We use the word "Clubhouse" as part of our program's name on purpose. NorthStar is part of an international network of Clubhouses which follow the guidelines set forth by Clubhouse International - ICCD - a model that works wonders for Clubhouse members!

The word "Clubhouse" comes from the original Fountain House Clubhouse in New York. Rather than an official service or treatment program, former patients began to meet informally as a kind of "club", a support system for people living with mental health challenges. The word "Clubhouse" signals belonging and membership.

Goodbye, 2024! What an amazing year we had! Whether building skills, making friends, or trying something new, NorthStar Clubhouse offered something for everyone who came through our doors. This year, we provided:
🥙 More than 9,000 nutritious lunches to members, prepared from scratch by members;
🕘 Opportunities for 33,935 hours of meaningful work in the Clubhouse;
💼 Employment assistance to more than 34 members (including interview practice, resume/cover letter writing and review, and temporary employment opportunities from our employer partners!)
