As daily news of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) grows, we would like to provide some information to our patients regarding the virus, and what we do at Sports Medicine Oregon to prevent infections of all kinds. As you’ve likely heard, cases of Coronavirus in the US continue to increase. As with all infectious disease, individuals with compromised health and immunity have the highest risk of severe symptoms. While the risk for those in good health continues to remain low for their own health, maintaining good hygiene practices reduces the spread to other high risk groups.
“We should be observing common sense hygiene steps and following guidance from federal, state, and local authorities about avoiding unnecessary travel and large gatherings in some areas. If we take these kinds of steps, we can slow the spread of the virus and keep all Americans as safe and healthy as possible."
Many athletes and active individuals maintain a well-balanced workout routine that incorporates stretching, rest days, and gradual intensification yet fail to heed one of the most basic injury prevention guidelines: wearing the appropriate clothing or gear! Properly fitting shoes and assistive devices will support the joint and connective tissues during activity. Individuals with Achilles tendon issues often complain of irritation while exercising, due to rubbing or friction from shoes.
We especially wish to assure you that we have always practiced, and continue to practice, proper precautions in our facilities. Everything that you can come into contact with is sanitized or sterilized in our treatment rooms, as well as on high-touch surfaces throughout our offices (doorknobs, handles, countertops, etc.). To add to this, we will be asking patients not to linger after treatment, so we can keep our reception area clear.
If you are feeling any symptoms of illness (congestion, fever, fatigue, nausea, cough, etc.) and are scheduled to visit us, please contact us in advance and we’ll advise you as to whether we will need to reschedule your appointment. We are striving to be appropriately cautious and we want you all to know that your safety is our top concern.
Warmly,
Sports Medicine Oregon
