Family gatherings during the holidays can feel complicated when someone is grieving. While the room may be filled with celebration, someone you love may be carrying quiet heaviness. 💛
There are small ways to help make gatherings feel safer and more supportive. Acknowledge their loss with simple words such as, “I am thinking of you,” or “I know this season may feel different.” Offer a space to step away from the noise if they need quiet. Allow them to share memories if they want to, and understand if they prefer not to talk at all.
Avoid pushing them to “cheer up” or telling them how they should feel. Grief moves at its own pace, and compassion grows when we make room for every emotion.
