Partnered with Soothe (outcall massage service) to work at the Spartan Race in Granbury today! Lots of fun!
Not pictured - the table caked in mud, wind gusts that brought dust in and carried people’s belongings across the barn, hugs from the people who completed the Beast or Ultra yesterday and came back to race again (the Sprint) or get 10 more minutes of bodywork. Some of the college aged athletes completed midterms during the night in between! 🙌🏼🔥

I’m stoked to have my Practitioner listing as a Structural Integrator up on Anatomy Trains’ site! Proud moment. 😍

"It's okay to be a man."

It's not okay; It's necessary.

You look around cities and see all these buildings go up. These men, they're doing impossible things. They're working on the sewers; they're up on the power lines in the storms and the rain. They work themselves to death (often literally).

The gratitude for that is sorely lacking, especially among the people who should be most grateful: the social justice bent who are among the most protected and privileged people the world has ever produced.

They take everything they have for granted, failing to understand that there's a massive infrastructure of unbelievably hard-working, solidly laboring working-class men breaking themselves in half regularly, making sure that everything that always breaks works.

A little gratitude for that is in order.

I took an introductory (prerequisite) course with a mind to attend the structural integration program in the spring of 2018. But that summer my plan was utterly derailed by sustaining a Traumatic Brain Injury. A year later, still working hard to regain executive function, I was able to begin the program and do 2 out of 3 modules.

I registered to complete school in Europe in 2020…but I’m sure it doesn’t stretch your imagination to learn that was canceled. I was so sad. Everything had *seemed* meant to be about that plan. Eventually new dates were set, and I returned to Maine for six weeks this spring to complete this endeavor.

Through it all have met some lovely practitioners, made new friends, found some of my edges and worked with those for growth, and fallen more deeply in love with the Structural Integration approach to working with the human body.

I am excited to practice Structural Integration as a manual therapist, and while I look at a piece of paper that says I’ve done 600+ hours in this course, I feel that I’m just standing in a doorway just about to begin.

I’m taking the weekend (started today) from my ATSI course to process and ground.

Letting myself feel sadness, disappointment, and frustration can be tiring but compartmentalizing it to get through class yesterday was more so. I can now let the held emotion move through me and dissipate. I watched a favorite war/hero movie and let myself cry. It felt so good. It also put things in perspective…If I live in a 3-foot-square box a molehill will seem to be quite a mountain. Taking a bird’s eye view reminds me that the current stress is within just moments and hours of my life.

And play. Play can be sooo tricky to access when stressed. I played tug of war and fetch, rolled on the ground and ran with my host’s black lab Lucy for a few hours, and it’s helped me find my feet and ability to play. Play is healing.

This isn’t the weekend I pictured when the week started. I had thought a day trip to Acadia with friends would be in order, but it turns out that Hacksaw Ridge with tears, lots of tea, and a long walk with no one but the dog, are perfect. Maybe tomorrow I’ll add a cold plunge. The water seems to be calling.

Hey friends! I am seeing clients in Lewisville and Fort Worth, TX this Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday (April 8-11) and some limited availability April 12, 14, 15. 🗓
I am also scheduling series work (ask me about this) in May when I return from Structural Integration school!

As a therapist who is new to this area, can you locals help connect me to anyone who may be looking for manual therapy or massage? Let them know I’m here this week and would love to help with pain, movement, balance and ease, headaches, or just feeling more at ease and better in their body.

Note: In the interest of privacy - you are welcome to contact anyone you know one on one rather than tag them here.

Last evening in Maine. See you again in < three weeks. This cove holds a place in my heart with memories of debriefing with classmates, solitude and prayer, trying to learn another language over lunch, cold swims, beautiful sunsets, and moments of mental exhaustion or uplifted energy.

It has a certain sense of home for me. Today totals over two months here, some in autumn 2019 and three weeks just now. Not really a great span of time, but to be so wholly here and doing almost nothing beating class and waking to and from this area daily, it feels as though it’s been much longer.

Now it’s time to get some rest.

Having a little dinner together with some classmates as we wrap week two of six in our final segment of Anatomy Trains Structural Integration certification. Nice little segue into our weekend.

We watch each other struggle and blossom, learn, support each other’s processes as best we can while experiencing our own journey in this intensive. It can be exhausting mentally, emotionally, and physically, but it’s good. It can also be renewing.
