Are you a procrastinator?

Do you tell yourself you "work well under pressure"?

Do you think, "That won't take long, I've got plenty of time!"

Are you a constant ball of stress that always has something due RIGHT NOW but you for some reason didn't start it when you should have and why did you do that, why do I always do this, what's wrong with me!

Just us?

So how do you get out of this cycle?

It can be really hard to break an ingrained habit so set yourself up with some tools ahead of time.

Recruit a friend to check on your progress. (And by check we mean hound you night and day if they have to. JK, or not)

Tell yourself you only have to work on it for 5 minutes. You can pretty much do anything for 5 minutes, and usually, you'll keep going once you get started.

Put reminders everywhere. Sticky notes on your mirror, alarms on your phone, whatever it takes to remind you to do the thing. But don't be mean to yourself, that will just make it harder. Leave positive, encouraging reminders.

How do you battle procrastination? Let us know in the comments!

Who wants drama?

Lots of people.

We all know that person or have that friend that thrives on drama. Whether they start it or spread it.

Or maybe that friend is you! (No judgment, we've ALL been that person!)

Drama can be exciting. But it can also be harmful. And just exhausting!

Think about how starting or participating in the drama makes you feel and makes others feel.

Is it really serving a purpose for you?

Let us know—do you live for the drama or are you a drama-free zone?

We're told over and over that we should celebrate our differences.

And we're also told over and over that different is wrong and we all need to conform.

Yeah, confusing.

But we're all different. There's no changing that.

So what makes you different? Do you like the things that make you different?

Why or why not? Thinking about these questions can help you reframe how you think about your unique qualities.

Whether you're starting a new school, a new job, or just being out in the world more—feeling different can be uncomfortable.

Let us know something different about yourself and why you like it in the comments!

What is it about trying new things that make us so anxious? 😳

We'll be bad at it.

We won't like something that everyone else does.

We'll look stupid.

It pretty much all comes down to being afraid of what other people will think.

And yeah, sometimes we get laughed at or criticized—but not as much as we're afraid of.

And sometimes we find something we love! 🤩

There will always be new things to encounter. Try thinking about it in a new way.

It's an opportunity to learn something about yourself.

What were you afraid of trying that turned out to be great?

🌱Let us know!🌱

Introverts hate people, extroverts love people.

But it's not always that simple...

Being an introvert or extrovert is more about where you get your energy from.

Introverts tend to get their energy by recharging alone. Having some quiet solo time replenishes them.

Extroverts feel energized by interacting with others. Drawing on the give and take of a group is crucial to their well-being.

Of course, that's an oversimplification too.

Some extroverts love being with other people, but only a few at a time or only for a certain length of time.

Do you know if you're introverted or extroverted? Or maybe both depending on the situation.

Take some time to think about where you feel most comfortable, what type of people you like being with, and what makes you feel replenished.

Knowing that will help set yourself up for success when you're in a new situation or around new people.

Founder Emelie Blank on the ethos of Sprout Therapy PDX:

When I began Sprout in 2017, I learned the term “boutique mental health,” a term some clinicians use to describe a private practice that serves lower acuity cases, clients typically higher on the socio-economic spectrum, and clients that have private insurance or are private pay.

Part of this model sat well with me—I wanted to create a therapy clinic that could provide consistent care to their clients, where skilled therapists have meaningful and long-term relationships with their clients, in a comfortable and modern setting, with small enough caseloads that they can truly focus on YOU and your needs for the time they sit with you.

The part that didn’t sit well with me was the idea I had heard so often of the goal of private practice being to serve privileged populations.

Let’s be real—if you came here, as many do, with prior experiences working with therapists in larger agency settings, let me guess what you experienced: burnt-out clinicians with huge caseloads, high therapist turnover, infrequent sessions, florescent lighting, and an institutionalized space. You might not have known much about your therapist prior to meeting them and may have struggled to feel safe enough to be truly yourself in a setting where you don’t know what values your therapist might have.

As a white, cisgender, straight-passing q***r lady, I saw an opportunity to use my privilege, education, and experience to create a practice that takes the good things from “boutique mental health” and applies to the populations who really need it.

Did you know today is National Lazy Day?

We know—it's always some national hot dog, sibling, random animal day.🙄

But we're taking advantage of this one, and we think you should too.

Give yourself permission to be a little bit lazy today. 😴

Take an extra five-minute break, watch another episode of Love Island instead of doing the dishes, do the easier run—whatever it is, treat yourself to a little extra laziness.

You deserve it!

If you listen to anyone, listen to Lady Gaga!

Beauty trends come and go, so why hold yourself to a standard that won't last?

However you define beauty for yourself is what's beautiful.

The thought of staring at yourself in a mirror and telling yourself, "I love you," is cringe—even for us. 😬

But, as painful as that picture is, don't discount affirmations altogether.

Reminding yourself of positives does actually help those thoughts stick in your brain! 🧠

Just do it in a way that works for you.

💡Take 5 min to write down things you like about yourself, physical or otherwise.

😴Or record your affirmations and listen to them every day, maybe before you get up or before you go to sleep.

Your affirmations can be anything from "I really like my legs." to "I'm a good friend."

🤩Just keep it positive!

What affirmations help you get through the day?

Sprout Therapy PDX

Maybe you’re having trouble “adulting”. You’re feeling like everyone else seems to have it all together, why can’t you? Your mental health is getting worse and worse, and you just want it to stop. Your day to day life is chaos and worry and you remember better days when things just weren't like this. You might feel like you’re out of control of your life.

You’re tired of doing the same things over and over again with no results. Maybe you’re seeing your child, partner, or loved one facing their own mental health challenges and you feel helpless to create change. Repeat after me: this is not the best your life can be. It will get better- and we're here to help you get there.

We know how hard it is to find someone who gets it- who’s relatable & real. Who’s going to be there to weather your storms and get into the weird stuff that makes us human. Who you can laugh with as well as cry. Our team at Sprout Therapy PDX is ready to help.

Our team of modern therapists work with a variety of different treatment issues out of our office in the St. Johns neighborhood in Portland. We work with individuals, families, and relationships of any kind. We also provide supervision for LMFT and LPC interns seeking licensure as well as offer clinical consultation for post-licensed clinicians or those working on building your own private practice.
