There are so many things I love about having my studio in CoworkHers! One of those things is how seriously they have been taking Covid precautions. CoworkHers is currently a vaccinated only space, and masks are encouraged. I also have this amazing air purifier in my treatment room that cleans the air in there completely every half hour. It's important to me to keep my clients as safe as possible and I appreciate this space for making that easier to do.

Over the past two months I’ve gradually been re-opening my practice, taking it a bit slowly to re-gain the muscle strength I lost over a year of not doing massages. It feels so great to be back in my studio and to have my elbows back in people’s shoulders. I’ve also been doing some re-branding, I gave my logo a little face lift and finally made a brochure! Check it out!

I have had at least one person a day for the past week and a half reach out to ask if I’ll be re-opening July 1st so I think it’s time for me to make a public statement.

My answer is no, not yet, it’s too soon. I stopped doing massages before the state told me I had to, therefore the state telling me I’m allowed to do them again has no influence on my decision to re-open either. Especially when things are far worse than they were in March and continuing to worsen. As I live with an essential worker and a high-risk person, I believe this to be the most responsible choice for both my household and my clients. I miss my clients and doing massages quite a lot and will continue to reevaluate the situation and try to come up with a set up for doing massages that feels safe as we see the results of things like reopening indoor dining over the next few weeks. I’ll plan for an update in early August but for the time being Chrysalis Body Work will remain closed.

Stay safe, keep your distance, wash your hands, wear a mask in public places, the sooner we can flatten the curve the sooner you can be back on my massage table!

Massage therapists like myself and other self employed people and independent contractors who work directly with clients such as estheticians and hair stylists aren’t able to work right now but also aren’t eligible for unemployment are in a really tough place right now having to stop work suddenly with no financial support. One way you can help if you’re still fully employed and financially stable enough to do so is to buy gift certificates now that you can use at a later date once it’s safe for it again, giving us a bit of income to get through the coming weeks and potentially months. I’m planning on donating $20 from each gift certificate that I sell in the next month to support local projects that are helping people survive this crisis (I’m thinking Presente Maine, DSA, and Preble st. and also am open to other suggestions!)

We’re all going to need a massage when this is over, why not have one waiting for you?

After a beautiful and successful first two months, I am deciding in light of current events to pause taking clients for at minimum the next 2 weeks, with the expectation that I will end up extending that further but the hope that we'll have more information to evaluate this decision from by that point. I want to extend a huge thank you to those of you who have supported me in this adventure and I look forward to helping you relieve the stress of the coming months after this is all over.

In the meantime- if you have expendable money or resources I encourage you to buy gift certificates now for a massage at a later, safer, date. I'm planning on doing something more officially promoted around this later this week but I will be donating $20 of every gift certificate sold to supporting folks who are being hit particularly hard financially in this time. I've also been seeing many friends posting about the experience of coming to a full stop after years of constant go go go and deeply feeling it in their bodies and asking for support on how to care for their muscles when it's not safe to get a massage. This has me brainstorming ideas for YouTube tutorials and Facebook live classes on self massage, reflexology, rolling, stretching, and how to massage your isolation buddy if you have a partner or roommate handy. So keep your eyes out for those and let me know if this is a thing that would interest you or if you have specific requests! Or if you're also a massage therapist and want to collaborate (virtually)!
