Please welcome April Fox to Yoga Refuge!

We're happy to announce will be teaching Vinyasa at our SE studio starting this Friday!

Join April for
Vinyasa Flow Fridays 4:30-5:30pm

Mover, shaker, and avid pursuer of joy and community.
April has been teaching yoga since 2014 when she landed in Portland from her home town of Detroit, MI. With a background in professional concert dance, April has a deep passion for exploring movement and its connection to mindfulness and expression. April came to the yoga mat in 2010 seeking compassionate care for her worn body and mind (spoiler alert, she found it). She has also spent time teaching and studying in Melbourne, Australia and continues to dance and create.

April comes to the classroom with the intention of creating space to explore that potential through inquisitive practices with somatic influences. “We cannot teach people anything; we can only teach them to discover it within themselves” is a quote from Gallileo that informs and inspires her commitment to helping students find their individual truth and awareness. You can expect a great playlist from this music lover, a few jokes about butts and armpits, and some experimentation in practice so that any body at any experience level can find a joyful, personalized practice.

Yoga Nidra for the New Moon
Friday, November 21st, 4:30-5:30pm with Danielle

Join us for a rejuvenating session of Yoga Nidra on the new moon. Translated as "yogic sleep," this practice invites you to gather in our studio for a deeply restorative and transformative experience that combines elements of meditation, relaxation, and conscious awareness.

Yoga Nidra is a meditation practiced lying down comfortably, while being guided into a state between sleep and wakefulness. As your brainwaves shift, your body experiences deep relaxation while your mind remains subtly aware. Within this liminal space, you have the opportunity to work closely with an intention, also called Sankalpa.

The benefits of Yoga Nidra are many, including quieting the mind, decreasing anxiety and stress, expanding awareness, and cultivating witness consciousness. It offers a chance to rest, reset, and explore your inner landscape from a place of non-dual awareness. This practice can provide a sanctuary of deep rest and stillness, allowing you tap into your innate wisdom, release tension, and experience profound states of relaxation.

Syncing up Yoga Nidra with the New Moon is ideal for turning your awareness inward and planting seeds of intention. It can be an opportunity to release old patterns, invite positive changes, and manifest desires. The moon provides both a sense of structure and a cosmic reminder to check in with yourself.

Our time together may also include a few journal prompts, so please bring your journal and pen if you'd like. Tea and yoga props will be provided; come dressed in comfortable attire and bring a yoga mat if you have one.

We look forward to sharing this transformative practice with you.

Memberships and class cards apply!

We're happy to announce Cary Spaeth is joining Yoga Refuge!

Cary will be offering a Saturday morning class at our Northwest location.

Join Cary Saturdays for
Hatha Flow 9:30-10:45am
at Yoga Refuge NW

I have been a dedicated practitioner of Yoga for more than half my life, and have been teaching for over a decade. I have studied in-depth with Sarah Trelease (my primary teacher, from whom I received certification to teach Hatha + Vinyasa yoga) and countless others. My approach to teaching is conversational, inviting, intuitive, differentiated to the best of my capacities in the moment, and reverent to the headwaters of this most generous wisdom tradition. Above all else,
my offerings are grounded in my experience as a researcher of my own practice. In my classes you can expect a blend of the styles I have been fortunate to learn through practicing them. I
share what is alive in me at a breathable pace, with a keen curiosity about the subtlety of real-time change. I am also a death doula + grief worker, a devotee of dogs, of language and the phenomenal ephemera that backs it up, and a (newly) licensed public high school Language Arts teacher participating in this most grand experiment while attempting to remember what it’s all about.

Awaken the Senses:
Restorative Yoga, Handcrafted Chocolate
and an Exploration of the Chakras
with Zsuzsanna Mangu

Saturday, November 22nd 2-4pm
at Yoga Refuge Northwest

An immersive evening of restorative yoga, meditation, and sensory exploration.

This workshop brings together yoga and handmade chocolate to awaken presence, deepen awareness, and open the senses. Yoga invites us to slow down and reconnect with the body. Chocolate, when made with attention and enjoyed mindfully, becomes a pathway to taste, texture, and energy that can amplify this inner journey. Together, they create a space where movement, stillness, and sensory experience meet.

In this workshop, we’ll focus on the first (Root) and fourth (Heart) chakras, the energetic centers of grounding, safety, love, and compassion.

The Root chakra (Muladhara) anchors us to the earth, offering stability, trust, and a deep sense of belonging. The Heart chakra (Anahata) opens us to connection, compassion, and the flow of love, both giving and receiving. When these two centers are in balance, we feel rooted yet open, strong yet tender, held by the earth and guided by the heart.

Throughout this workshop, you’ll be guided through restorative yoga and meditation practices that prepare the body and mind to fully experience these flavors. Together, we’ll explore the chakras, the body’s energetic centers that connect our physical, emotional, and spiritual selves, through both movement and mindful tasting.

By slowing down and engaging the senses, this workshop offers a grounding practice that brings balance, nourishes the spirit, and awakens deeper awareness.
