Today, we celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) – a landmark civil rights law that ensures people with disabilities have equal rights and opportunities in all aspects of life.
For 35 years, the ADA has opened doors – literally and figuratively – creating access to schools, workplaces, transportation, community spaces, and beyond. It has been a vital tool in the fight for inclusion, equity, and belonging.
At NW Disability Support, we know the ADA is more than just a law – it is a promise. A promise that every person experiencing disability deserves to live, learn, work, and thrive in a community that celebrates their voice and value.
As we look back on this milestone, we also look forward – continuing to advocate for a world where access and inclusion aren’t special accommodations, but everyday reality.
Thank you to the self-advocates, families, and allies who fought – and continue to fight – for disability rights. You are the reason change happens and the force behind our advocacy and mission.
Share in the comments how ADA has impacted your life, why disability rights matter to you, or how you continue to build a world where everyone belongs.
