It is crucial to recognize the potential impact of trauma on a child's development and behavior, particularly when working with children with disabilities, who are statistically more likely to experience violence and neglect.

To ensure a safe and supportive environment for our clients, it is imperative to adopt a trauma-informed or trauma-sensitive approach. When you presume competence you act with the belief that an individual is able to think, understand, and learn and that they have the potential to further develop these skills.

We believe it's imperative that educators, therapists, and other grown-ups who work with children ALWAYS presume competence.

Expectations matter!
