Nurse Practitioners truly are the heart of our healthcare system — expanding access, delivering personalized care, and showing up for their communities with both expertise and compassion.

From primary care to specialized fields, they help bridge critical gaps and ensure patients receive the quality care they deserve.

We truly couldn’t do it without them. 💙

Although 1 in 5 women deal with postpartum and pregnancy-related mental health disorders (postpartum anxiety or depression, postpartum OCD, unwanted intrusive thoughts—UITs—etc.), many are too scared to talk about it or know where or how to seek treatment.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a pregnancy-related mental health disorder, is an incredible resource to start with.

Pregnancy and postpartum are difficult enough without unneeded guilt and shame. Help is close, and available if you need. ❤️

We’ve all heard it: You should be meditating… but when? And how am I supposed to sit still that long? 🧘‍♀️😵‍💫

If the idea of carving out 30 minutes (or even 10) feels unrealistic, you’re not alone. For many of us, the barrier isn’t willingness, it’s the pressure to do it “right.”

What if I told you meditation didn’t have to be long to be helpful? What if a few (maybe imperfect) minutes still counted? Turns out, they do!

Recent studies show \ shorter moments of mindfulness can actually make a difference. So, if you’ve been putting meditation off because it feels like "too much," this one’s for you.

For those who don't know me... Hi, I’m Diane! 👋

I’m a Harvard-trained writer, Yale-trained nurse-midwife, and Oregon Health & Sciences University-trained psychiatric nurse practitioner and Ph.D. (Yes, I am a Dr. Nurse 🩺)

I serve as an adjunct professor at OHSU and have spent much of my career in leadership roles supporting nurses and advancing mental health care here in Oregon.

My work centers on well-being, women’s mental health, and adult psychiatry, but at the heart of it, I’m simply someone deeply interested in what it means to be human. I’ve written for publications ranging from to , always with the hope that something I share helps someone feel a little more seen.

I’m also a mother of four adult children, including my youngest, who has high-needs autism. That experience has shaped not only my personal life, but the way I understand connection, empathy, and the many ways we communicate and care for one another.

If you’re here, thank you! I hope you find something resonant. ❤️

Grief doesn’t mean letting go, it often means finding a new way to stay connected. 🤝

These “continuing bonds” can help us process loss, create meaning, and carry our relationships forward in a different way. There’s so much nuance in how we grieve, and no one way is necessarily better than the other.

In my latest article, "Getting Closer to the Bones," I explore the research behind continuing bonds, the role of ritual, and how we begin to make sense of loss over time. ❤️

In a divided world, compassion can feel out of reach. But what if "being the change" was as easy as your next caring breath? 🌬

In one of my latest articles, I dive into Kristen Neff, Ph.D's, concept of self-compassion and how meaningful, intentional breathing can increase well-being, resilience, and more (while decreasing anxiety, depression, stress, etc.).

Read more about "Compassion-In, Compassion-Out" breathing in my article, "A Simple Way to “Be the Change You Wish to See in the World." ❤️
