Even if you and some of your relatives have conflicting opinions on politics or what have you, it’s important to come together and enjoy the similarities we all do have... aka, find your common HUMANITY!⁠
⁠
It could be as simple as:⁠
🔹 Bonding over your love of family⁠
🔹 Looking back on your shared history⁠
🔹 Talking about hobbies you have in common (fishing, yoga, movies, etc.)⁠
⁠
And if someone does start to bring up hot button issues, know you have a choice. You can:⁠
🔸 Ask to change the subject or bring up something you know you have in common.⁠
🔸 Ask them to take a walk and talk about each perspective. This way it doesn’t involve others and can just be a conversation between the two of you.⁠
🔸 Just silently nod your head, smile, and remember you have to feed the dog, make a salad, or suddenly go to the bathroom! Remove yourself and breathe—we all have a right to our opinions.⁠

Whichever direction you choose, remember to take a breath and find your calm before saying or doing something you may regret.⁠ Happy Holidays!⁠

I think of myself as open-minded and a lifelong feminist (charter subscriber to at age 12!), but this book hit me hard. ⁠
⁠
Made me mad, sad, and glad. Did you know both men and women, when asked who comes to mind if they think of a “genius,” only ever mention Marie Curie as the sole female genius?! Think of all the “male geniuses” you can name, in contrast. This is not right! 😡⁠

I loved and appreciated .kaplan’s great book and deep dive. We need to confront our own unconscious biases and own that men do not corner the market on genius or creativity. The is coming for you! ✊⁠

Last weekend we celebrated the marriage of my daughter, Rivkah, to her partner, Daren! The weekend was filled with a lot of warmth, laughter, and love for these two. 🤍💍 More photos coming soon!⁠

After the wedding, I spent a few days visiting my dad and stepmom (who was honored for her incredible community work on behalf of Jewish Family Services) in San Diego. Always a treat to go home again (especially being so close to the beach!).⁠
