It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that I have decided to dissolve Acorn & Crow. The mountainous task of starting a non profit while already working full time, raising a kiddo and running my own art business has become too much and I do not have the spoons, energy or bandwidth to continue on.

Thank you to everyone who has donated time, energy, and money towards trying to make this little dream of mine a reality.

For those who have applied for the Summer Solstice fundraiser, check your email inbox for more information. I plan to continue forward with the Maker's Market fundraiser and we will be donating all proceeds to .pdx as their Mission most closely aligns with the spirit in which Acorn & Crow was created.

I am heartbroken to see this come to an end and I am eager to see what the future holds.

Much love and aloha.

Kate

Welcome Wednesday is Thursday this week! Let’s welcome our final advisory board member!

Today we’re welcoming Ian Schroeder! Ian (he/him) shared the following bio with us!

“I am a transgender-identified Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) and hold certifications as a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), Master Addictions Counselor (MAC), and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC III). I completed my Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Jackson State University in Jackson, MS. My approach to counseling is as a partner to walk with someone towards a place of healing. I have a background in working with adults in a variety of community mental health and residential settings. Currently I am the Director of Behavioral Health at Prism Health in Portland, OR and owner of Partners in Healing Counseling Services, LLC in Welches, OR. I am a native of New Orleans and relocated to Oregon in November 2016. In my off time, I love to hike and spend time with my dogs.”

Today we’re welcoming Erin Petty (she/her). She shared the following bio with us!

“I am a cisgender, white, heterosexual, larger bodied woman with a passion for the weird and wonderful. I love spending time traveling to new places, exploring new recipes, and catching up in a cozy corner on my ever growing to be read list of books. I received my BA at the University of Stirling located in Scotland, UK, where I lived for four years. Upon returning home after my studies to Oregon I have spent the last 10 years working in community mental health inside residential programs here in the Portland Metro area. During this time I have examined and challenged my own privileges/background and have come to understand the significant importance of decolonized therapies and offering a focus of ancestral healing practices in the treatment of mental health. I am so happy to join this group at Acorn and Crow to be able to provide elevated care and support to our beautiful communities.“

Today we’re welcoming Sam Perera! Sam (they/them) shared the following bio with us!

I identify as a neurodivergent non-binary witchy BIPOC q***r who lives the phrase “The personal is political,” both in activist alignment and simply by existing.

I am from Florida originally, went to college in Montreal, and have lived in France and Scotland. I enjoy spending my time immersed in art and ritual. I love acroyoga, karaoke, and partner dancing. My PNW happy place is curled up with a book, a cat, and a cup of Earl Grey on a rainy day. I have professional experience as a political organizer, teacher, tarot reader and burlesque performer. I was drawn to Acorn & Crow because I firmly believe in its guiding principles, and I know that it’s important to have lived experience woven into its stewardship.

Today we’re welcoming Becky Jarvis! Becky (she/her) shared the following bio with us!

“In 2011, I saw an opportunity that would give plus-size women the chance to feel truly beautiful. Five years later, thanks to my work, time, and dedication, I am the founder and owner of Curvy Chic Closet, the largest plus-size consignment sales event in America. In 2018, Curvy Chic Closet Foundation (non-profit) was founded to help empower confidence in plus size teens and adults through our programs. I am no stranger to the business world, with years of experience working with organizations focused on helping others. I also spent years working with the Centro Cultural, South Asian Women’s Empower and Resource Alliance and the Oregon Coalition against Domestic and Sexual Violence. In addition, I was the administrator for Electronics Unlimited, a full service computer consulting business for over 20 years.“

Today we’re welcoming Amanda Ferrat! Amanda (she/her) shared the following bio with us!

“I am the founder of Value Yourself Counseling LLC, a certified Advanced EFT Practitioner, wellness counselor, and international speaker. Over the last two decades, I have supported others in various social service settings; including those grieving, in crisis or healing from trauma. I pursued a Masters of Social Work until life had other plans. While on my own healing journey, I discovered EFT, Emotional Freedom Techniques, also known as tapping. I immediately knew that EFT would deepen my own healing and that it was how I wanted to help others heal as well. I now help women, teens, and gender expansive folks learn to trust, love and heal themselves, free from shame and patriarchal programming. I support them on their journey to empowered sovereignty by combining empathy, knowledge, lived experience, passion, and professional skills to create safer, braver spaces for deeper healing and personal growth. I identify as a fat, q***r, Pagan, neurodivergent and disabled woman.”

For many years I have collected tarot and oracle decks and I would like to share them with all of you. On Mondays I will be to pull a card to set our intention, goals or plans for the week. I will also share the deck I am pulling from in case you find it especially meaningful.
Today I am pulling from the Nap Ministry’s Rest Deck. The card for today, “To rest in a capitalist world takes practice and meticulous care.”
I would like you to take a moment and sit in this idea. What does it mean for you to rest in this ever moving grind culture of a society that we live in? What can you do today, tomorrow, Wednesday and so on to incorporate a little more rest into your day?

Today, I will take my full lunch break despite the never ending collection of tasks piling in my queue.

Today we’re welcoming Alexis Barnes! Alexis shared the following bio with us!
“I’m a large bodied q***r woman of color who deeply cares about supporting marginalized folks in my community. I work at an LGBTQ+ community clinic as a medical assistant. I have a deep understanding of the pit falls in our health care system and how they affect those who are underserved. I have also come to learn creative ways of circumnavigating some of the systems barriers! When I’m not diligently working you can find me in the woods or at the coast with my two dogs. I also adore reading, collecting rocks and sticks that I decorate my home with!”

We’re so excited to work with Alexis the next year!
