WHAT IS PPD? Psychophysiologic Disorders (PPD) is the clinical term for mindbody symptoms. PPD are physical conditions and pain symptoms in the body that develop in response to stress, tra

uma and other psychological factors. These mindbody symptoms can affect almost any structure, organ system or region of the body. Conditions such as chronic pain, migraine, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic fatigue, and pelvic pain syndromes are just a few of the very real chronic conditions that can be diagnosed as PPD. In fact, you may be surprised by just how many different symptoms are actually mindbody disorders. The good news is that after years of clinical research, there is now evidence that many of these mindbody symptoms (previously thought to be incurable) can be relieved and even cured without surgery, physical therapy or medication. With an evidence-based approach to diagnosis and treatment, sufferers can achieve relief from their chronic pain. Learn more at EndChronicPain.org

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a disorder involving irregular muscle contractions in the large intestine and how the brain perceives these contractions.

It can lead to abdominal pain, changes in bowel habits (diarrhea, constipation, or both), bloating, and a sensation of incomplete bowel movements.

There are no definitive diagnostic tests for IBS; it is diagnosed based on typical symptoms and ruling out other potential causes.

If medical evaluations do not identify any disease or injury, or if treatments fail to provide expected improvement, it is likely that the brain plays a role in generating or contributing to the pain or illness. This is called a neuroplastic symptom.
