Entering this state of deep relaxation allows us to bypass our logical, analytical mind and connect with the subconscious, which harbors our sense of unlimited potential and deeper creativity. Through working with the subconscious, outdated beliefs and attitudes can be discarded, to be replaced with more positive, empowering beliefs in ourselves. This shift allows for dramatic improvements in our behavior, affecting our self confidence, our job performance, our personal sense of fulfillment, personal relationships, health, motivation and creativity. The subconscious mind processes vast amounts of information much more quickly than normally occurs at the conscious level. Thus new behaviors can be implemented with surprising results, provided the client is actively engaged in the process. Often we set ourselves up for disappointment and failure by imposing excessively high expectations on ourselves. Yet research has shown that remarkable shifts in behavior can be achieved when only a 10% adjustment in the right direction has been made. If we want to improve our job interviewing skills, for example, we'll succeed once we upgrade our self-confidence and skills by 10% (or higher). NLP, or Neuro Linguistic Programming, is the study of the structure of how each person's internal "map" of the world affects the way they perceive it, and interract with it. NLP has also been described as "helping you identify where you want to go, and helping remove all the internal obstacles so you can get there." For example, think of something you are naturally good at (ie a sport, musical instrument, cooking etc.) NLP can help you transfer subconscious "cues" you have learned when you're feeling successful, and enable you to be more proficient when engaged in something that challenges you. NLP is often incorporated into various processes to help clients clarify their outcomes, process information, and assist in releasing phobias.
