In honor of National Volunteer Week, we would like to highlight two of our many long-time volunteers who give their time and resources to make our hospital a better place. Meet Rod and Sherry:
Rod is a Shriner with the Al Kader Shrine in Wilsonville and is a retired junior high school teacher with 32 years in the Beaverton school district. He has volunteered at the hospital both as a driver and an ambassador for 21 years, bringing laughter and joy to patients and their families.
Sherry is a Daughter of the Nile and is a retired secretary. She has also been a volunteer for 21 years, and is currently the coordinator of the Sewing Ladies, a group of women who provide inpatient quilts, transition quilts, pillowcases, wheelchair and walker bags, personal bags, patient shorts, capes at Halloween and other specific treatment requests from doctors and therapy departments.
Rod and Sherry also volunteer with the National Forest Service. They come to the hospital on Tuesdays and together have contributed over 13,000 hours of service to Shriners Children’s Portland. Thank you for your service!
