On Friday May 1st, our studio will be participating in the national day of action to show our support for workers’ rights. We invite you to join our community for the following events:

FREE 10:30a - 11:45a Hatha Yoga with Meghan

FREE 12p - 1p Townhall Style Discussion with Meghan and Krista about May Day

1:30p Rally at South Park Blocks

3:30p March at South Park Blocks

**Normal classes will be canceled from 12p on Friday, May 1st to participate**

May Day History
In 1884, US organized labor unions demanded an eight-hour workday to begin on May 1, 1886. This led to widespread strikes across the U.S.

This year, organizers for labor and workers’ rights are calling for No Work, No School, No Shopping to highlight the growing disparity between the working and billionaire classes.

Free Yoga and Community Discussion
In solidarity with workers’ rights, The Practice Space will offer:
a free Haṭha yoga class from 10:30-11:45 a.m. led by Meghan
a townhall style discussion from 12-1p hosted by Krista and Meghan. This discussion will highlight the history of May Day and why its significance matters today. We will also discuss what a general strike entails and practical steps we can take to prepare for a larger national strike.

Why We Choose to Participate
We feel called to participate in the national day of action on May 1st because we aim to promote agency. When full-time workers cannot meet their basic needs their agency is limited. This restriction limits choices, reduces mental bandwidth due to increased stress, and constrains access to opportunities. Furthermore, the ethics of yoga are at the forefront of our decision making. Policies which reward the most privileged while harming the most vulnerable populations directly conflict with The Practice Space’s mission to promote physical autonomy and emotional resilience.

No sugar coating, this work isn’t for the faint of heart. But we do it so we can impact our world and the world beyond.

With gratitude,
The Practice Space Team

Happy Earth Day! 🌎 🌱 🌳 🌊 🏔️

“The fittest may also be the gentlest, because survival often requires mutual help and cooperation.” - Theodosius Dobzhansky

🌱Empathy, cooperation, and gentle behavior are not evolutionary weaknesses. They are the foundation of sustainable and successful survival.

🌱We are stewards not owners of these lands, waters, plants, and animals. If we consciously foster spiritual kinship with Earth, we become guardians who protect Earth.

🌱For much too long, humans have exerted power over Earth. We may not be the ones drilling for oil, but our choices of what and how much we consume drives the momentum and direction of global markets.

🌱Making adjustments and shifting behaviors requires initial effort, but eventually the “new” way of doing things becomes “normal.”

🌱What if our new normal was cooperation, connection, and reciprocity with Earth and others not merely for survival but for safety, flourishing and dignity for Earth and all her beings?

Join on Wednesdays 12-1 pm for Yoga Flow & Release

💫 This class is the perfect one hour nourishment for your body. It’s effortful movement partnered with moments of deeper mobilization. You may be utilizing massage techniques like you would in the neural roll-out but it will be seamlessly sprinkled through a flowing yoga āsana practice.

Prāṇa was given a prominent position in the early yoga texts as it was seen to be the force that energized all the faculties within the human body. Prāṇa via the breath was considered to be a direct bridge to the unchanging unified field of consciousness underlying all existence.

This unified substratum of reality was known as Brahman. As a unifying principle, it was surmised that the unchanging basis of reality must also exist within the human being and was called the inner self or ātman.

The scholar Robert Luyster suggests that “this principle of ultimate unity, finally, since it constituted the true reality of all phenomena, must constitute the true and inner reality also of man; and since the fundamental reality supporting man’s life had from pre philosophical times been identified with the breath, the presence of Brahman in man was naturally localized within his prāṇa (breath) or ātman.”

The ātman was often conceived of as the internalized sun residing within the heart (hṛdaya). Luyster notes moments in the texts which suggest that the arteries that surround the heart were thought to be a material connection to the rays of the sun; “when one proceeds through the arteries toward the heart, he also obtains the light of the sun.”

The external sun became the symbol of universal consciousness of which prāṇa was the active principle. The rays of the sun were thought to be rays of prāṇa.

We enter into our body and onto this planet through our individual breath. When our time comes to an end, we depart with our final exhale.

Every breath in between is shared in relationship with others and our environment. The value of a vision of the breath as both individual, as well as shared is that it recognizes the unique story of each individual, yet the shared breath reminds us that we coexist with the world around us.

For this very reason, the breath holds the potential to acknowledge both multiplicity and commonality, origin and apotheosis.

The importance of the breath has been obscured in much of the modern approach to yoga, but we can revitalize its role one conscious breath at a time.

40 Days Spring 2026: The Three Strands of Reality w/ will be an exploration of a foundational philosophical concept known as the three guṇa-s.

Understanding the role of the guṇa-s and their rhythms within us provides insights on how to make lifestyle choices which support us with a greater sense of equanimity and wellbeing. The guṇa model is a powerful tool that we can employ in our day to day choices and within our Yoga practices as it teaches us how to live harmoniously within duality, paradox, and complication.

This 7 week series will meet on Thursday evenings from 7-8:45 pm for a community meeting where we will be exploring the topic in group discussion, journal prompts and breaking into pairs or small groups for further exploration.

The aim of this program is that each participant will establish and commit to their daily practice AND actively attempt to apply the philosophical theory and insights to one’s lived experience through various prompts, practices, and reflection.

Our practices become much more impactful and integrated when we understand the theory behind them. Theory provides context and direction, but if it’s not applied to our lives, it remains an intellectual pursuit or puzzle that lives in our mind.

This series will be a support to students wanting to deepen their understanding of yoga philosophy and dedication to practice. This series would also benefit yoga teachers who would like more exposure and understanding of yoga philosophy.

Yin Toolkit 2026 - A Journey Through the Five Elements & Five Archetypes of the Soul w/
Spring/Wood Element
April 12th
3 - 5:30p

Nature does not move in straight lines. It moves in cycles.

In nature, growth emerges from stillness - activity follows rest - expansion gives way to integration and ultimately to release and dissolution. Each year, we too move through a seasonal cycle of transformation. Spring awakens feelings of courage and action; summer opens our hearts to joy and connection; late summer nourishes a sense of stability; autumn requires release and acceptance of impermanence and winter draws us inward for restoration and reflection.

When we align with the wisdom of nature’s cycles, something profound happens: we stop forcing life and begin moving with it.

The Yin Seasonal Toolkit Series invites you to consciously experience the year as a living journey of renewal, growth, connection, and transformation aligning with the rhythms of the Five Elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine—Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. In a world that constantly pushes us toward productivity and acceleration, the Five Elements offer another way of living that honors timing, balance, and natural rhythms.
