Today is International Human Rights Day

As business leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers, we hold a powerful responsibility: to uphold and champion human rights in every decision we make.

From fair wages to equitable governance, from creating safe workplaces to building communities where dignity and respect are non-negotiable... our choices ripple far beyond the walls of our organizations.

At Mighty Epiphyte, we believe business can be a force for good by embedding equity-centered, anti-oppressive practices into everyday operations.

This aligns with the spirit of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - notably, SDG 5: Gender Equality, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.

What can we do today?

1. Conduct a human rights audit of your supply chain and operations.
2. Commit to creating policies that actively dismantle systems of oppression.
3. Advocate for inclusive practices that amplify the voices of marginalized groups.

Small steps lead to lasting change.

Together, let’s ensure that the principles of human rights guide our businesses and inspire our impact... one decision, and one impact at a time.

On International Volunteer Day, we celebrate the power of people who give their time, energy, and skills to create meaningful change in the world.

Volunteers are the heart of communities, driving forward solutions to social, environmental, and economic challenges.

Volunteering is about more than giving back... it’s about building connections, fostering equity, and creating impacts that ripple far beyond what we see.

Whether you’re planting trees, mentoring youth, or using your skills to support equity-centered causes, your contributions matter.

Together, we can build a future where every action creates a better tomorrow. 💚

Artists Sunday is a celebration of creativity, connection, and commerce with heart.

Held the Sunday after Thanksgiving, this movement champions artists and makers as essential small businesses - and invites us to support them with the same energy we give to Black Friday and Small Business Saturday.

We believe:
– Art is not a luxury; it’s a language of impact.
– Artists are not hobbiests - they are economic drivers, culture keepers, and visionaries.
– Investing in art is investing in community, resilience, and storytelling.

Whether it’s a painter working in reclaimed materials, a jewelry maker weaving cultural heritage into their designs, or a writer illuminating justice through poetry - artists expand our vision of what’s possible.

This Artists Sunday, consider how your spending reflects your values:
– Choose handmade over mass-produced
– Commission work from local or underrepresented artists
– Share, uplift, and credit artists whose work moves you
– Support creators who use their platform for climate, equity, or social change

Small businesses aren’t only brick-and-mortar… they’re also found at craft fairs, co-ops, community markets, and Etsy shops. Let’s include artists in our definitions of entrepreneurship and sustainability.

To all the artists weaving beauty, truth, and hope into the world…
You are seen.
You are essential.
You are valued.
💚

Today is Small Business Saturday, a reminder to celebrate the heart of our communities... small businesses!

Every time you support a local shop, service, or creator, you’re doing more than making a purchase. You’re:

1. Strengthening local economies
2. Reducing environmental impacts with shorter supply chains
3. Building relationships with the people behind the businesses

Small businesses often lead the way in creating thoughtful, values-driven practices that prioritize community and sustainability.

By shopping small, you’re investing in a future where businesses are about more than profit... they’re about purpose.

Let’s keep the momentum going:

- Shop with small, local vendors for holiday gifts.
- Leave a kind review or share your favorite small business online.
- Partner with small businesses to grow your own impact!

What small business are you supporting today?

What if it's not either/or?

This time of year, we see a growing wave of folks stepping away from the frenzy of overconsumption to embrace Green Friday - a movement rooted in sustainability, mindful choices, and caring for the planet.

Green Friday asks us to rethink what we really need.
To shop less, repair more, and invest in community and climate instead of clutter.

But here’s something just as important:
Not everyone has the privilege to opt out.

For many, Black Friday is a lifeline - a necessary opportunity to afford essentials, stretch a budget, or give their loved ones something special.

And there's no shame in that.

At Mighty Epiphyte, we hold space for both:
– The drive to reduce waste, shop secondhand, and support values-aligned businesses
– And the reality that for some, these sales make all the difference

This isn’t about judgment. It’s about intention.
It’s about recognizing systemic inequities - and choosing, where we can, to align our actions with our values, without creating shame or division.

If you’re celebrating Green Friday this year, here are a few ways to make a gentle impact:

1. Shop small, local, or secondhand to lower your environmental footprint

2. Repair, upcycle, or donate items instead of discarding them

3. Support eco-conscious and equity-centered businesses when possible

And if Black Friday sales help you meet your needs this season, know that your dignity is not up for debate.

However you participate in this weekend, know that every intentional choice contributes to a more just and sustainable future.

What are your reflections this year… on consumerism, values, and access?

Let’s hold the complexity together.

Thanksgiving, for many, is a time to gather, rest, and reflect - but the traditional narrative we've been taught doesn't tell the full story.

In my family, we don’t buy into the mythologized version of Thanksgiving.

Instead, we choose to honor the deeper, more complex history - and we invite indigenous voices and stories to the table.

This is a time to reflect not only on what we’re grateful for, but also on how we can carry truth into our traditions.

We believe it's absolutely possible to take time off, share a meal, and celebrate connection - with knowledge, with humility, and with intention.

In our house, we learn about and acknowledge the Indigenous Peoples of the land we live on.

We listen to their stories.

We incorporate native foods into our meals.

We recognize that giving thanks can go hand in hand with accountability, learning, and a commitment to equity.

As a business rooted in justice and impact, Mighty Epiphyte invites you to:

1. Explore the true history behind this holiday. I recommend these two sources:
https://www.smithsonianmag.com/blogs/national-museum-american-indian/2022/11/23/thanksgiving-from-an-indigenous-perspective/
https://blog.nativehope.org/what-does-thanksgiving-mean-to-native-americans

2. Uplift Indigenous voices and support Native-led businesses.

3. Create space for reflection and deeper conversations within your family, team, or community.

This season, let's make gratitude expansive.

Let's hold space for grief and joy, history and healing.

And let’s remember that changing the story begins with how we choose to listen.

Feeling overwhelmed by all the impact certifications out there?

You’re not alone.

From B Corp Certification to Benefit Corporation status to other mission-aligned verifications, it can be tough to know what’s right for your business right now.

That’s why we put together this simple 4-step framework to help you make a grounded, values-centered decision:

1. Start with Your Why – What impact are you here to make?
2. Consider Your Capacity – Time, energy, and financial investment matter.
3. Avoid the All-or-Nothing Trap – Certification isn’t the only way.
4. Case-by-Case Is the New Standard – Your path is your own, and that’s a strength.

This framework is part of our latest blog post:
B Corp vs Benefit Corporation (and Beyond): How to Choose the Right Fit for Your Business

It’s your guide to navigating options, staying true to your purpose, and building impact with intention… not pressure.

Not sure if you’re “ready” to report on your impact?

Start small.
Start smart.
Start with a Benefit Report.

You don’t need to be certified. You don’t need a fancy team or dashboard.

What you do need is intention - and a willingness to reflect on how your business is showing up for people and planet.

Here are 4 reasons to start a Benefit Report today (even if certification is a “maybe someday”):

1. Clarity of Purpose: Writing a Benefit Report forces you to articulate your goals and assess whether your business is living up to them. It sharpens your internal compass.

2. Credibility with Stakeholders: Clients, partners, investors, and team members increasingly want to see proof of impact. A Benefit Report demonstrates transparency and commitment.

3. Year-Over-Year Progress: Tracking your impact over time helps you make better decisions and set more meaningful goals. It’s a built-in feedback loop for continuous improvement.

4. Low Pressure, High Value: Unlike certification, there’s no minimum score or audit. A Benefit Report is as flexible as you need it to be - start simple and grow over time.

In our latest blog post, we unpack how a Benefit Report fits into the broader landscape of B Corps, Benefit Corporations, and other verification paths… plus how to choose what’s right for you.

What does it really look like to walk the path toward B Corp or Benefit Company certification?

For Josh, Deborah, and Pallavi, it looked like:
– Support that was strategic and personal
– Guidance grounded in values, not just checklists
– A partner who brings clarity, compassion, and deep experience to the table

At Mighty Epiphyte, we don’t just help you get certified - we help you align your impact with your operations in a way that feels authentic, achievable, and equitable.

B Corp certification and Benefit Company registration aren't just about logos and labels.
They’re about committing to people, planet, and purpose - and being willing to measure, improve, and grow with intention.

We’re honored to be part of our clients’ journeys - and we’re grateful for their words of trust and appreciation.

If you’re thinking about making your impact official through B Corp or Benefit Company certification, let’s talk. 💚

This week, we celebrate the dreamers, the doers, and the change-makers who are reshaping industries, communities, and the planet.

Entrepreneurs aren’t just building businesses - they’re creating impacts that matter.

At Mighty Epiphyte, we’re proud to stand alongside solopreneurs and small business owners who are turning their values into action, designing equity-centered practices, and striving toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Whether it’s through crafting a Benefit Report, achieving B Corp certification, or embedding sustainable practices into their work, these leaders inspire us every day.

Here’s to the entrepreneurs who:

1 - Balance profit with purpose.
2 - Think about social, environmental, and governance impacts with every decision.
3 - Commit to growing their businesses year over year while making the world a better place.

Let’s keep growing, learning, and leading together. 💪
