✨ Now my travels have brought me to Ayurvedagram in Bangalore, where I am exploring Ayurveda, the Science of Longevity, as a rogi, as well as an aspiring practitioner. Under the guidance of my teacher, Vaidya Jayarajan Kodikannath and Dr Harsha, I am grateful for the unfolding that I am experiencing each day.

🌳🍃🪷The campus here is beautiful and green, full of plants, birds, and trees. My personal work is around grief, during this trip, and I have been receiving nurturing treatments for detoxifying the body, mind, and spirit.

🥀 Grief has many layers and the process is not a linear one. The woman who took this pic of me, also shared a wonderful book, and it was right on time. I cant wait to dive in further, as I process loss of my parents, the loss of my two soulmate dogs, and the loss of the fertile phase of life.

I’m in beautiful Kerala, India soaking in the lush green forest and refreshing waterfalls. But make no mistake - it’s HOT and HUMID. My hike to the waterfall was like a sauna spa detox treatment!
A few thoughts about traveling solo:

Breaking Fast is always a special time for me. I can sit in gratitude for the food Mother Nature provides. A different appreciation for the gift of food arises after abstaining from eating food. It’s humbling.

✨Today I am breaking my 72 hour fast a bit early in order to eat dinner with my partner this evening. 🥰

I’m breaking it with bone broth, followed by a salad of sardines, cucumber, tomato, arugula, olives, balsamic vinegar, and a squeeze of fresh lime.
Later for dinner, I’ll be acclimated to eating again, digestion will be easier.

🥗🫕Start with a very small protein and salad, then wait a few hours to have a fulll meal. Your belly will thank you for it! ❤️

So far I’m 42 hours into a 72 hour fast and feeling fantastic. Fasting is how I manage glucose, boost immunity, and get rid of unwanted or unhealthy cellular debris through autophagy.

🤎 85% dark chocolate is still my favorite dessert, especially when I can add goodies like coconut and almond. In this batch, I sprinkled in some magic in the form of a few dried rose 🌹 petals for fun!

P.S. - Last night, after a meal of salad, followed by homemade hot wings with butter sauce, (💛), I had one of these lovely little homemade cutie bars for dessert.
2 hours later I tested my blood glucose and ketones and was in ketosis. 💫 YAY!

We can enjoy yummy things and still meet our health goals!

Are you, like me, super sensitive to synthetic fragrances? 😵
😵‍💫 Perfumed fabric softeners, dryer sheets and air "fresheners" can cause headache, hormone disruption, and allergic respiratory response.
Many of these artificial fragrances are anchored with chemicals classified as parabens (along with phthalates), to make them last an unnaturally long time.

Gluten-Free Zucchini and Carrot Loaf !!!🥒🥕

🍁🍂Fall is baking time in my household, and we love a good gluten-free bread! Here’s how I make my loaf:

Phase 1
🍞 3 cups almond flour
🍞 4 tsp Ceylon cinnamon
🍞 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
🍞 1 tsp salt
🍞 1 tsp cardamom
Phase 2
🍞 6 eggs, beaten
🍞 1/2 cup maple syrup
Phase 3
🍞 2 cups zucchini, shredded
🍞 1 cup carrot, shredded

🧡 Combine ingredients in Phase 1, in a small bowl. Mix well.
🧡 Combine ingredients in Phase 2, in a separate small bowl. Mix well.
🧡 Grate ingredients in phase 3 into large mixing bowl.
🧡 Add Phase 2 to Phase 3 in the large mixing bowl until blended.
🧡 Add Phase 1 to the egg and zucchini mixture, hand mixing flour bit by bit until smooth.
🧡 Fold batter into loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees F for 45-50 minutes. Test doneness with toothpick.
Allow to cool and enjoy!

✨ For sugar-free recipe, you can sub a sugar-free Maple Syrup or similar, 1:1.
✨ To add sweetness, add 1 banana to Phase 3.
✨ If you like nuts, try adding pumpkin seeds or chopped pecans to the top of your loaf before baking.

🔥 We care about abdominal fat because excessive abdominal fat is associated with higher cardiovascular disease risk, asthma, sleep issues, osteoporosis, and certain cancers.

🔥 Fat loss around the middle isn't about looking cute, or conforming to an impossible beauty standard. It's about lowering risk for preventable disease in midlife and beyond.

🔥 Healthy metabolism in midlife doesn't come from cardio workouts. It comes from eating fewer refined carbs, adequate healthy protein and adequate healthy fat.

🔥 Releasing that abdominal fat, that visceral fat around the organs is not only possible, it's important and totally achievable.
We can do it 💪🏼.
