Breaking Fast is always a special time for me. I can sit in gratitude for the food Mother Nature provides. A different appreciation for the gift of food arises after abstaining from eating food. It’s humbling.

✨Today I am breaking my 72 hour fast a bit early in order to eat dinner with my partner this evening. πŸ₯°

I’m breaking it with bone broth, followed by a salad of sardines, cucumber, tomato, arugula, olives, balsamic vinegar, and a squeeze of fresh lime.
Later for dinner, I’ll be acclimated to eating again, digestion will be easier.

πŸ₯—πŸ«•Start with a very small protein and salad, then wait a few hours to have a fulll meal. Your belly will thank you for it! ❀️

🀎 85% dark chocolate is still my favorite dessert, especially when I can add goodies like coconut and almond. In this batch, I sprinkled in some magic in the form of a few dried rose 🌹 petals for fun!

P.S. - Last night, after a meal of salad, followed by homemade hot wings with butter sauce, (πŸ’›), I had one of these lovely little homemade cutie bars for dessert.
2 hours later I tested my blood glucose and ketones and was in ketosis. πŸ’« YAY!

We can enjoy yummy things and still meet our health goals!

Gluten-Free Zucchini and Carrot Loaf !!!πŸ₯’πŸ₯•

πŸπŸ‚Fall is baking time in my household, and we love a good gluten-free bread! Here’s how I make my loaf:

Phase 1
🍞 3 cups almond flour
🍞 4 tsp Ceylon cinnamon
🍞 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
🍞 1 tsp salt
🍞 1 tsp cardamom
Phase 2
🍞 6 eggs, beaten
🍞 1/2 cup maple syrup
Phase 3
🍞 2 cups zucchini, shredded
🍞 1 cup carrot, shredded

🧑 Combine ingredients in Phase 1, in a small bowl. Mix well.
🧑 Combine ingredients in Phase 2, in a separate small bowl. Mix well.
🧑 Grate ingredients in phase 3 into large mixing bowl.
🧑 Add Phase 2 to Phase 3 in the large mixing bowl until blended.
🧑 Add Phase 1 to the egg and zucchini mixture, hand mixing flour bit by bit until smooth.
🧑 Fold batter into loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees F for 45-50 minutes. Test doneness with toothpick.
Allow to cool and enjoy!

✨ For sugar-free recipe, you can sub a sugar-free Maple Syrup or similar, 1:1.
✨ To add sweetness, add 1 banana to Phase 3.
✨ If you like nuts, try adding pumpkin seeds or chopped pecans to the top of your loaf before baking.

We've all heard the advice, "Eat Less, Move More" for fat loss.

⚑️ Newsflash - it didn't work BEFORE menopause, and it's not going to work now that you're in Perimenopause.

The main reasons women don't achieve success with exercise for fat loss in menopause are:
1) We are doing the wrong kind of exercise (ie. too much cardio focus)
2) We aren't eating ENOUGH satiating, nutrient-dense foods to support healthy metabolism and fat burning.

πŸ˜ƒ BUT the good news is that intentional exercise - specifically, STRENGTH TRAINING to gain muscle mass and maintain/increase bone density does work in peri/post/menopause!

πŸ₯³ Not only does strength training work to increase muscle, it works to BURN FAT, along with eating high quality protein, healthy fat, and yes, a rainbow of veggies.

Strength training in peri/menopause can:

πŸ’₯ Increase production of muscle-building stem cells

πŸ’₯ Increase metabolism

πŸ’₯ Increase bone density

πŸ’₯ Improve cardiovascular (and overall) health
