šŸ‘‹ If youā€™ve ever found yourself peering into your palms curiously- join us as we dive into the mysteries of the hand through our Introduction to Palmistry class!
This two hour long class will provide a basis for understanding the nature of oneself, and what the past and potential future holds inscribed within the hands. Weā€™ll also touch on the history of palmistry, and why itā€™s been either buried or villainized for much of recent history. This Course will be hosted by our dear Bel, on Sunday, the 20th of July, 6-8pm. Sliding scale is available and encouraged- we would be brokenhearted if anyone pondering this topic was met with a financial roadblock. Reach out to the shop with any questions!

Iā€™ve been getting tagged in some ā€œface behind the businessā€ posts, so allow me to reintroduce myselfā€”and the other people who really make the wheels turn at Arcana.

Iā€™m Jennie. I also go by JJ (she/they)... Iā€™m a q***r mother, yoga teacher, grad student, and person in long-term recovery, among many other things. Maybe you know me as the owner of Arcana, a Sea Change Yoga teacher, that teacher you had in college who made you breathe. Maybe youā€™ve seen me at protests or on TikTok spewing feminist rants. Maybe you think Iā€™m a resilient mama whoā€™s managed to run a decently ethical business that prioritizes its workers and honors practices from around the world. Or maybe youā€™ve heard Iā€™m a monster or a total b*tch. Iā€™d say all of itā€™s a little true ;).

I grew up in Maine, in the Bangor area. I never imagined being a downtown Portland business owner, but when Kate Hebold, Arcanaā€™s founder, was ready to step away, I felt called to step up.

As I took on this new role, I quickly saw things needed to changeā€”not just at Arcana, but in the healing arts and Western yoga world. Through mentorship from Indigenous elders, my involvement in the BLM movement, and my education in feminism and human rights, I learned what we were doing wrong: appropriating practices, selling endangered plants from far away, spiritually bypassing, whitewashing... I knew something needed to change. And letā€™s be real, it wasnā€™t just my own self-evolution; it was YOU all, and my employees and co-owners, who pushed me to do better. šŸŒ€Starting Tuesdays from 11am - 6 pm, Pablo will be starting services at Arcana. He offers Reiki and Shamanic Practices. Pablo Barajas (He/They) was born and raised in Lewiston, Maine. He recently received his Usui Reiki training at Arcana from Kristine Keegan. Pablo has also completed a year long Shamanic studies apprenticeship with Nancy MacPhee & Kathleen Duggan of Shamanic Healing and Teaching. His course study included an array of teachings ranging from journeying, ancestral healing, extraction, psychopomping, to soul retrievals. He is currently pursuing advanced Shamanic studies with Terry Morgan of Center Of Elemental Connections in Brunswick, ME. Pablo is also the founder and owner of Litty Bittys, a medical & adult-use licensed cannabis manufacturing facility based in Auburn, ME. He is elated to be on staff at Arcana, where the beginning of his healing journey started. āœØ
