Lice have favorite hiding spots—and the nape of the neck and behind the ears top the list. These areas are warm, hard to see, and have thinner skin, making them ideal for feeding and laying eggs (nits).

To do a thorough check, use a fine-toothed lice comb and bright lighting. Gently part the hair and look closely near the scalp, especially around the hairline.
