Shafia Monroe Consulting

Shafia Monroe Consulting Shafia Monroe is the Queen Mother of a midwife movement, a doula trainer, and a birth justice warrior My personal goal is to end human suffering.

I am a lover of people and see the best in each person that I meet. My seven children and my husband are the joys of my life. I've been teaching midwives, doulas, and birth workers for over four decades, focusing on African American birth traditions and postpartum rituals. I am a lifelong learner of organic gardening and herbal medicine. In 2002, I created the SMC Full Circle Doula Birth Companion Training curriculum, to increase the number of doulas of color, Black midwives, and to honor the legacy of the 20th century African American midwife. It's about bringing joy to birth, sacredness to motherhood, honor to fatherhood, and strengthening family.

Tonight I was blessed to meet two times James Beard Award author Micheal W. Twitty . I flew to Brooklyn, NY to attend his book signing for his new book.
His presentation was interesting,
educational, personal and humorous.
I highly recommend getting his latest book; and if possible attend one of his book signing events. You will be glad that you did. I learned so much about how food connects humanity and heals.

Traditional African baby wrapping belongs to people of the African Diaspora
Reduce use of the carriage, and wear your baby. Back the baby past 10 pounds. Backing the baby soothes, makes baby feel secure, raises their oxytocin level, and increases their intelligence.
This tradition is before B.C. It is ancient wisdom for parent and baby. Mothers and fathers both do it.
I carried all of my seven children like this . My grandchildren, the neighbors children and any fussing baby. It calms them 99% of the time.

Fortunate to find red clover blossoms while bike riding. I have been drinking red clover blossoms for over 20 years. I use it as blood purifier and for general support for my health. Before drinking it read up on the pros and cons, or speak with a certified herbalist.
