The cornea is the only part of the human body with no blood supply. Unlike other tissues, it remains crystal clear by absorbing oxygen directly from the air rather than relying on blood circulation.

To stay healthy, the cornea draws oxygen from tear fluid and the aqueous humor, the clear liquid inside the eye that nourishes it. This unique adaptation ensures perfect transparency, allowing light to pass through unobstructed for sharp, clear vision.
However, wearing contact lenses for too long can limit oxygen absorption, leading to hypoxia, a condition where the cornea swells due to lack of oxygen.

So next time you blink, remember your cornea is one of the most remarkable parts of your body, sustaining itself in a way no other tissue does.
