“Create room in the lower uterus. Baby will use that space, with the natural pull of gravity, to snuggle into a more ideal position for birth.”

It’s the end of Apple season AND all our sweet October babies have made their way earthside! We’ve been busy this fall holding space and helping all our strong amazing clients welcome their babies in their own ways! We feel pretty lucky getting to do this job ☺️ Thanks for inviting us into your homes! We are also realizing we have one more spot for a March birth if you are expecting or know someone, send them our way!

10/16/2020

We haven’t posted for awhile on social media but wanted to take a moment and send our love to all our clients, friends and community who have lost babies, either in pregnancy, labor or beyond. October is pregnancy and infant loss month and we want to be here to hold space while also making sure you know you aren’t alone 💗 And know that we are here to listen or pass along resources as needed!

Ashlie is such a great photographer and has an awesome blog series of other local providers that she’s really gotten to know and feature. My month was supposed to be months ago and we were excited to capture me providing care to a sweet newborn but y’know... Covid and all changed that 😕 So, here I am without the cute babe but still super lovely to collaborate with Ashlie on this!

It's WOMAN WARRIOR WEDNESDAY!!!!⠀

That's right friends, my Woman Warrior series is back ON! The first few months of COVID put a few kinks in my plans for this series. But, I'm happy to report that I figured out how to bring it back in a way that still allowed me to photograph the women I'd be featuring. ⠀

Today, I'm super stoked to introduce you to Mirra Nerenberg, midwife and owner of Portland Natural Birth. ⠀

Having a midwife as your pregnancy care provider is becoming more and more popular, especially here in Portland. And with the spread of COVID-19, many people are opting to give birth at home or a birth center not wanting to risk the exposure of giving birth in a hospital setting. ⠀

I honestly didn't know about midwives or what did until I was in college.. Ever since then I’ve found that model of care incredibly appealing.⠀

Meeting Mirra only confirmed my ideas about midwives and midwifery care. I met Mirra for coffee almost a year ago and was immediately struck by her calming presence and easy-going nature. It was clear to me that she had definitely found her calling in life. I loved listening to her talk about her work. Mirra loves working with pregnant people! She impressed me with the amount of individualized care that she gives her clients. She spends time really getting to know her clients throughout their pregnancy. Mirra and I also connected over our love of nature, hiking, backpacking and, of course, babies. ⠀

Today, I’m excited to introduce you to the newest Woman Warrior in our series: Mirra Nerenberg, Certified Professional Midwife and owner of . ⠀

We are so pleased to share that $1,000 was raised during Jaime’s fundraiser for ! Thank you to everyone who bought weavings and to everyone doing what they can to support the causes they feel passionate about. The revolution we want is going to require us all to utilize our unique strengths and passions, which looks different for everyone! We are going to continue to find ways to support Black-led, women-led organizations that are fighting for reproductive justice. THANK YOU!!

It’s so important to talk with your kiddos about racism but it can be hard. If you need help starting the conversation (and missed the Sesame Street post a couple days ago or your kids are older) here’s an article of how to be honest yet age appropriate and some book recommendations to start reading with your kid.
In our house, my kids hear the adults talking about current news or hear it in the car on NPR so this has always opened the door to more explanations and conversations. We’ve also been able to find small, local family friendly protests (where we wear masks and keep far apart) where my kids are able to make their own signs and really feel like they are standing up and a part of pushing for what is right. We continue talking about our donations being made and other things we can continue to do to support Black Lives matter.
We invite you to start the conversation and/or continue it with your kiddo. We’ll try to keep posting ways that are helpful for young families to learn and take a stand.

The conversation about race needs to start early and keep happening.
