**Jaw Pain**

In a clinical trial, Zakkour, et. al (2022) concluded that facial pain is significantly reduced after needling the trigger points in the face.

This is great news for those who suffer from TMJ, TMDD and other jaw or face pain.

Our combined 25 years of clinical experience has proven that jaw pain is usually significantly reduced after 10 dry needling treatments.

If you are coming in with pain in the jaw, temples or above the eyes you can expect a targeted massage on your face and neck, as well as needles in these active and latent trigger points. Our LMTs and our providers are also experts at intra-oral massage of lateral pterygoid muscle. Sounds weird, sure, but you’ll love it.

Questions? As the kids say, “slide into our DMs”.

*The X's represent the Trigger Points. There is no difference between the black and white X’s. The red shaded area is the referred pain caused by the Trigger Point and the darker red means more people have experienced pain in that area.*

We’re pumped to announce that dry needling treatments now include a 20 minute massage before the trigger point dry needling.

To The Point PDX is Oregon’s only dry needling clinic, and one of the only dry needling clinics in the country that offers this combined service.

Moraska, et. all (1996) found that massage increases the pain threshold of muscle trigger points. The pain threshold of trigger points has a greater capacity to increase with massage. In other words, based on this randomized control trial, targeted massage will allow the dry needling to be even more effective!

Massage activates your trigger points in a way that will make the dry needling more comfortable for you!

Based on our 10 years of clinical experience, combined with evidence-based practices, we’re confident that the massage and dry needling model will increase the efficacy of your treatments.

And here’s the best news: massage is billable as an out-of-network service! And for those who do not have dry needling coverage on their insurance plan, the massage adds no extra cost to your service at To The Point PDX.

After taking a 6 month hiatus, we’re back Instagram! Now we’re committed to using social media responsibly by backing up our posts with peer-reviewed research and monitoring our own social media habits. Because that’s the only way I can protect my own mental health while using these platforms.

Mingqing Lu et. al (2022)
argues that social media increases “information anxiety”.

With the continuous integration of social media in everything we do, a new type of overwhelm has entered our lives. And some of that “information anxiety” is due to false information that is being shared on these platforms (Mingquin, 2022).

So here’s my promise to you; we’re going to share peer-reviewed information that will interest you if you’re experiencing unexplained pain or discomfort, or you’re just into cool stuff.

We’ll use this platform to highlight research and share how we’re incorporating that information into our clinical practice at To The Point PDX.

We will not try to make you feeling like you’re “missing out.” For me, I realized that I always felt worse about myself after an Insta scrolling session. I do not want to do that to you.

My goal is to make your Instragam feed informative, helpful and interesting, without making you feel “less than”.

So, cheers to the rebirth of the To The Point PDX and Portland Dry Needling Instagram account.

Cheers,
Dr. Sarah
