Nick Rinard Physical Therapy (formerly Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy of Portland (MDT)) in Portland, Oregon, is a small network of Physical Therapy clinics devoted to healing people and giving them the power to heal themselves. Founded in 1999, MDT of Portland was the first Physical Therapy clinic in the Northwest devoted to practicing the MDT Method (including McKenzie Method, Musculo-skeletal

Diagnosis and Treatment, Mulligan Mobilization with Movement, and other manual therapy methods). We have two Physical Therapy clinics serving the Portland Metro Area, plus opportunities at Mt. Hood, and remain the only Physical Therapy practice that specializes in the MDT method. For that dedication we have been rewarded with the reputation as the Physical Therapy Clinic That Gets Results. We honor that reputation every day by seeing our patients recover, more than 10,000 and counting, in as few as 4-6 visits. But don't just take our word for it; schedule a Physical Therapy appointment today and see for yourself how you can finally live pain free!

Fun in the sun reminders.

Don’t allow the heat to keep you from enjoying the activities you love, but be smart about your time in the sun. Here are some tips to help:

• Be patient with your body. If you regularly exercise outdoors, it can take up to 2 weeks for you to acclimate to the hotter conditions.

• Pay attention to the humidity level. High humidity means that the body can’t cool off as efficiently (sweat won’t evaporate as readily). This can also lead to increased fluid loss as your body continues to try and regulate its temperature, so drink more fluids and reduce the intensity of your activity.

• Sweat is made up of more than just water. Be sure that you are replenishing electrolytes if you are active for a prolonged period.
• Come to terms with the fact that you will be slower. Hot days are not the time to try and beat your best time-just enjoy yourself!

• Stay hydrated! Make sure that whatever you are doing, you bring water with you. It is more difficult for your body to regulate its temperature under dehydration, increasing risk of heat stroke.

• If you can, plan your activities for earlier in the day or late at night when the temperatures are cooler.

• Protect your skin from the sun, even on cloudy days.

Bulging disk? We can help you get back on track.

"I had a disk bulge in my back.

The bulge made it where I couldn't sit, had trouble sleeping, and had trouble in general. Also pain.

The treatment has heled a lot.

No trouble sitting or sleeping.

I am on the road to normalization."

Patients are getting results with Nick Rinard Physical Therapy!

"I had nagging lower back pain that was localized on the left of my spine.

After confirming it was likely due to a bulging disc by my doctor he referred me to Nick because previous physical therapies had not worked.

I was really impressed from my first visit because they therapy was completely different and was provided in a progressive approach with exercises that made sense!

After 12 visits the lower back pain is gone!

I highly recommend this PT!

Staff is super positive and really informative and fun - it actually the only I looked forward to the PT sessions 🙂 "

Nick Rinard Physical Therapy is back from the long weekend-- getting patients results.

If you are in pain- let us help you get rid of what ails you before the first days of summer!

“Bi-lateral flank pain. This issue does not appear to be structural, but Nick helped treat mid-to-upper back pain which was also present. I feel I have the tools and techniques to self-treat this and prevent future flare-ups. Thanks!"

Get back to what you love to do... Nick Rinard Physical Therapy is HERE for you!

"Recommended by my wife and glad I came in.

Goal was to get back to running after a decade after an ankle injury.

Gained a lot of clarity about the injury and tools to strengthen my legs and gain more stability + mobility on my ankle.

Back to running and excited to keeping taking on the miles!"

Waiting to start PT after an accident can actually INCREASE your healing time.

Some people are told to “rest” for 4-6 weeks before starting therapy after an accident. The problem with this? There are many things a person can do immediately after a car accident to facilitate healing and prevent dysfunction.

All too often, we see people 6 months or more after a car accident or motor vehicle accident (MVA).

Without exercises at home, the picture is this: limited, painful movement of the spine or joint, global weakness, and poor posture that becomes painful when corrected.

The same is true for other types of trauma as well! Prolonged rest causes stiffness, and can lead to increased pain.

Nick Rinard Physical Therapy has a very effective treatment protocol that helps patients avoid loss in range in motion, and decrease pain!
