In 2009, I graduated from OCOM with a Masters in Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine...I remember the fear and anxiety I felt 11 years ago - of the next chapter that lay ahead of me. I worked hard, I made mistakes, I found, created community, I got involved, I found my voice, I failed and got back up again...and through it all, I listened to the voices of my ancestors saying to keep going!!! And yesterday, Aug. 31, 2020, I had the distinct honor of giving the keynote speech at the commencement ceremony for the 2020 graduates! I wanted to convey inspiration and hope for what’s ahead of them. If I can do it, so can you! I also knew it was an important moment to talk about health equity and to call on our next generation of healthcare providers to do better, to recognize and work in their own implicit biases for the patients they would see in the future and for themselves. There’s is still work to be done, the name of the college needs to be changed and there needs to be deeper historical recognition and stronger acknowledgment of where the East Asian Medicine we practice comes from. After giving the keynote and talking with students staff I believe the college is up to this challenge and look forward to their evolution. So much gratitude to for inviting me to be a part of the celebration!

I reopened Black Pearl Acupuncture about a month and a half ago now 🖤💫
Things look and operate differently then they did before the pandemic, lots of new protocols: cleaning, temperature checking , masks, gloves etc....
The things that remain the same are:
The Healing ✨
The fact that has and always will be a safe healing space for my Black, Indigenous & Brown family✊🏾, for my LGBTQIA 🏳️‍🌈 family, for those that are in need of deep care, a place to have space held for us and high quality healthcare with deep compassion and understanding 🖤
This is what I strive to bring to the world daily, this is my gift that I get to share, with gratitude in my heart for those who choose to work with me. ✊🏾🌈🙏🏾🖤
Healing is resilience. Healing is resistance.

Immune boosting health tips continue...

✨Gargle with salt water✨

🔅 In Traditional Chinese Medicine we focus a lot on preventative medicine. During cold and flu season I am always working with and teaching my patients easy ways to prevent getting sick and if they do start to get sick we then work on ways to get them well before they get sicker.

🔅 Gargling with 1/2 a teaspoon of salt dissolved in 8 ounces of warm water works both as a way to prevent getting sick and as a way to stop a cold or virus from going deeper in the body and making you more sick.

🔅Salt has been scientifically proven to help draw water out of oral tissues, while creating a salt barrier that locks out water and harmful pathogens from getting back inside.

🔅This makes salt water gargles valuable for blocking viruses and bacteria, reducing the chance of infections in the mouth and throat where many viruses start out.

✨How to do it✨

Dissolve 1/2 a teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of warm water. Gargle the salt water in the back of your throat for as long as you can handle. Then, swish the water around the mouth and teeth afterward. Spit it out into a sink after you’re finished.
Gargle at least twice a day. You can safely gargle many more times than that, too.

It’s a simple, affordable and effective way to help keep you healthy! Add this to your daily routine to help keep you healthy 💕

Hello lovely people 💗 I have been thinking of different things I can share to help keep us healthy during these hard times while we are all physically distancing but staying socially connected. Scroll through down to see how to make the tea step by step ➡️....

✨Cong Bai Tea is an easy tea to make that I often recommend to my patients. It’s simple & it effective. It helps to boost your immune system and it’s good to drink at the first signs of a cold. The 4 ingredients/herbs tend to be items people already have in their home or are fairly accessible. I like this tea and Chinese Medicine for that matter because of its accessibility, below is the recipe and some explanations on each ingredient used... Cong Bai Tea
1 bunch of green onions (chopped)
Green onions are known in traditional medicines to help dispel pathogens and helps to benefit the lungs.

2 orange peels (chopped) (I used 4 in my demonstration because they were small)
For hundreds of years, herbalists trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine use orange 🍊 peel to improve digestion, relieve intestinal gas and bloating, and resolve phlegm. This peel acts primarily on the digestive and respiratory systems.
5 slices of fresh ginger root (1/8″ thick)
In Traditional Chinese Medicine fresh ginger is an herb that is used to treat the early stages of sickness that affect the upper respiratory tract, the eyes, the ears, the nose, the throat or the skin.
1 TBSP of brown sugar
In Traditional Chinese Medicine brown sugar is known for its ability to tonify qi or strengthen the bodies energy in combination with the other herbs. It s also warming to the body.
4 cups of water

Boil ingredients for 10 minutes, strain & enjoy!💫 (As always if you have any underlying health conditions please contact your healthcare practitioner before using any herbal medicine including this tea).

In light of recent developments and through much thought and consideration I have decided to temporarily close Black Pearl Acupuncture to ensure the health and well being of my patients and our community.

At this moment, I am planning on a minimum of two weeks closure, but this will be subject to change as recommendations evolve. I plan to reopen on Monday, March 30th.

As I said yesterday, Black Pearl Acupuncture is here for you. Anyone who wishes to make an appointment via phone or video chat can do so, whether you are a new patient or established patient.
These are good for any health concern. After the session, I will update your treatment plan and mail you herbs and/or supplements to help with your health concern. If this is of interest to you or someone you know please email me to set up an appointment. blackpearlacupuncture@gmail.com

Right now we have to protect each other and work together, responding to this public health crisis by staying apart.

You are in my thoughts. I wish you and your family good health and resilience during this time.

To help keep you well while you are at home, I will be posting immune boosting suggestions on my instagram page: Black Pearl Acupuncture, page: Black Pearl Acupuncture and website blackpearlacupuncture.com.

Please take good care of yourself and each other. Thank you for your continued trust in Black Pearl Acupuncture.
