Please read this letter about Dr. Plante who is running for the presidency of the American Psychological Association. He recently published an article condemning society's response to 'Karen's'. He lacks insight and racial awareness and has some obvious unexamined racism. If you also believe the APA deserves a better leader who can help our nation heal from racialized trauma rather than inflict more, please consider signing the petition.

Blog Post posted by Melody Li about White Supremacy Has No Place In Mental Health: Collective Response to “Vilifying Karens” Article on Psychology Today by Dr. Plante on Inclusive Therapists.

As a society, we often talk about racism, but rarely ever do we talk about how it affects the health of our people. I call racism “the…

We at Open Mind Medicine are deeply anguished by the unabating murderous violence against members of our Black communities. We join others in experiencing this grief and in demanding justice for the inhumane murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Ahmaud Arbery, and too many other Black people. We acknowledge the compounding and enraging reality that these murders are not isolated incidents. We recognize the collective intergenerational trauma that Black people experience due to the current, historical, structural, and systemic realities of racism and the impact this has on one’s lived experience as well as physical and mental health. We stand against racism and hate and deeply hope that equality and justice do not only exist in statements, laws, or Constitution, but in people’s hearts, minds, and everyday policies and practices.

To members of the Pacific Northwest Black community and beyond, we say:
We hear you! We see you! We believe you! Your pain and your lives matter!

We pledge to continue the important work of unlearning our own racist conditioning and white supremacy indoctrination, to act to advance social justice inside and outside of the office, and to support the personal and collective healing from racialized trauma that harms us all.

In solidarity,

Open Mind Medicine

Because we need and deserve support.

This helps organize your anti-racism learning. It's a great resource.

This helps organize your anti-racism learning. It's a great resource.

This is a working document for scaffolding anti-racism resources. The goal is to facilitate growth for white folks to become allies, and eventually accomplices for anti-racist work. These resources have been ordered in an attempt to make them more accessible. We will continue to add resources. I...

The American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) believes that health and wellness are human rights. We recognize that our country, once again, is facing the reality that these rights have not been extended to all of its citizens, most disproportionately affecting Black people. The AANP supports and stands in solidarity with those who have and continue to raise their voices in the fight for these basic rights. We remain firm in our oath of "First Do No Harm," which includes standing up and speaking out against systemic and institutional racism and the injustice and rampant, persistent discrimination Black people continue to face.

1. We pledge to listen to the voices of those who are marginalized and oppressed.

2. We acknowledge our important role in highlighting and amplifying diverse voices within the profession and we recognize we must do better.

3. We call upon our profession to unite, to support, protect, and provide a platform for all of the Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) members of our community.

In Health,

Rob Kachko, ND, LAc
President, AANP
