Adventist has an amazing collaborative birth team with midwives, nurses and OBs who look forward to doula care as well as one of the only sidelining birth centers in the county. 4 rooms with real beds, immersion tubs, nitrous upon request. . Join GatewayDoulaGroup.org for community births as well as our on-call programs at Adventist, OHSU. Gateway also does doula billing statewide for THWs and helps new doulas with peer mentorship. Gateway -as Mother Tree’s sister org —has over 60 community doulas supporting across the state.

Dogs and owners who gaze into each other’s eyes experience a significant increase in oxytocin levels. For example, one study found that dogs and owners who spent a lot of time gazing into each other’s eyes had a 130% increase in oxytocin levels for dogs and a 300% increase for owners. Enhanced social communication
Mutual gazing between dogs and humans can facilitate affiliative communication and mutual interaction.

Posted • There is a lot I didn’t know, but now I DOula 💗✨ Completed the Postpartum Doula training weekend… but this is only the beginning 🐛 I’ve got a lot of little baby steps ahead of me to get certified. Excited for the journey ahead 🦋

It was lovely to spend this weekend making new connections with the other doulas in training. What I learned most from this course is that it truly takes a village. I could not and would not “do it on my own”! I know I’ve got a lot of love to give and more knowledge will come with time and experience… but I’ll also be creating community to support new parents on their journey to live in wellness with their tiny new family member(s). 👶🏼👩🏻‍🍼🍼💞
So grateful to our incredible instructor & for providing these courses. This kind of work is gonna change the world for generations to come 🫶🏼

Posted • 📣Mother Tree Doula Services has 25 scholarships available for BIPOC in the Portland-area to become birth doulas. This 9 month PAID program will put you among some of the region’s leaders in reproductive health and business experts access with birth and business mentorship. Participants will attend 3 births, where they will be paid $750 for each one amounting to a total stipend of $2,250.

Altogether, the resources received in this program are valued at $7,000!

Research proves that doulas are one of the leading ways to improve birth outcomes not just in the delivery room, but throughout the pregnancy journey. Oregon leads the nation in doula care and innovation. Now is one of the most exciting times to join the movement for not just one of the most vital roles in our state right now, but one of the most rewarding.

Congratulations to our Fall 2023 Doula Business Incubator Graduate Terra Presley, founder of Zurima PDX (www.zurimapdx.com). Terra is a dedicated professional in the realm of women’s health and has served hundreds of clients as a Certified Lactation Counselor, Childbirth Educator and THW Doula. Terra is a recipient of the Prosper Portland Inspiring Diversity grant and is passionate about maternal wellbeing —empowering expecting families by supporting them through hands on birth support , education and feeding newborns.

Today is my 45th Doula-versary. I supported my mom birthing my brother in an unassisted birth when I was 7. Today is now Penny Simkin's death-day. I have known Penny my entire professional doula career for over 20+ years. I spent hours in her home learning to be a doula. She was one of my greatest personal mentors. I called her on numerous occasions. Having though many times, "what would Penny do?" Her grace, compassion and wisdom will pass on through the countless doulas who come after her. I secretly thought of her as the Yoda of birth. May the spiral gift her with all the grace of her legacy. ❤ Penny Simkin Photo by
