To all our mothers in recovery, in every sense of the word, we wish you a very special Mother's Day. 💐🌹

Mothers in early recovery often face unique barriers when seeking help. We would like to highlight one service that makes it a little easier here in Maine; MaineMOM.

MaineMOM is a program offered by MaineCare providing team-based care for pregnant and postpartum individuals with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). Services are provided during pregnancy through 12 months postpartum and are designed to support recovery, promote healthy parenting, and improve maternal and infant health outcomes.

With the MaineMOM program, mothers receive the care they need and the compassion they deserve.

Join us for this month’s **Sound Soul Connection** as we continue exploring new pathways to healing and connection. This month, we are expanding our practice by bringing together the grounding power of meditation with restorative bodywork.

We are thrilled to welcome **Sharon Little** from New Vibe Holistic Healing, who will be joining us to facilitate **Bowenwork**. This unique and gentle form of bodywork focuses directly on the nervous system. When we hold onto stress or unexpressed emotions, our bodies often stay on high alert, creating physical tension. Sharon will use these gentle movements to signal the brain to relax, reset, and repair. It is a powerful tool for pain relief, stress reduction, and finding emotional balance.

This restorative bodywork will be paired with a 50-minute live sound meditation facilitated by Christopher Chamberlin, creating a deeply immersive space to help you release tension and reconnect. Please feel free to bring a blanket or pillow for added comfort!

Whether you are looking to relieve physical tension, quiet your mind, or simply share in the connection of community and sound, this space is for you. All are welcome!

**When:** Second Sunday of the Month | 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
**Where:** Portland Recovery Community Center | 102 Bishop St. Portland, ME

💚 May is Mental Health Month 💚

This year’s theme is “More Good Days, together.” It’s a reminder that mental health isn’t about perfection. It’s about building more days that feel manageable, meaningful, and hopeful. And we don’t have to do it alone.

Mental health is deeply connected to our overall well-being. Small, science-backed habits like good sleep, movement, stress management, and staying connected can make a real difference.

Here are 5 simple, meaningful ways to support your mental health this month:

1. Start small
Choose one habit you can realistically stick to, like a 10-minute walk or going to bed a bit earlier.

2. Prioritize sleep
Keep a consistent sleep schedule and create a calming wind-down routine at night.

3. Move your body
Even light movement like stretching, walking, or dancing can boost your mood.

4. Stay connected
Reach out to someone you trust. A quick check-in can make a big difference.

5. Give yourself grace
Not every day will be perfect. “Good enough” is more than enough.

Let’s make 2026 a year of more good days, for ourselves and together and if you need support, do not hesitate to reach out to us at PRCC!

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Chief Robert Moulton of the Scarborough Maine Police Department. We are so grateful to the Chief for leading the efforts to create Operation Hope which began as a collaboration between the Scarborough Police Department and Portland Recovery Community Center to assist people who are seeking treatment for a substance use disorder, launching in 2015. The program is still thriving as Pathways of Hope at PRCC and in the past year we have assisted 165 people seeking treatment. Rest in Peace Chief Moulton.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of Retired Police Chief Robert Moulton’s passing yesterday afternoon due to a longtime illness.

Chief Moulton began his career at the Scarborough Police Department in 1977 as a Reserve Police Officer assigned to foot patrol at Higgins Beach, patrolling Prouts Neck and working details at Scarborough Downs and the Beech Ridge Speedway.

In January 1978, he was hired full-time as a Patrol Officer and attended the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in 1979.

During his career, he further served the department as a Youth Aid Officer working with school programs.

He was promoted to Detective in 1981 where he was involved in the creation of the Southern Maine Task Force, composed of investigators from a variety of southern Maine communities.

In 1984, he was promoted to Patrol Sergeant and then eventually became a Detective Sergeant supervising the Detective Bureau.

In 1986, Chief Moulton was promoted to Lieutenant where he became the second in command to Chief Tom Dixon. In this role, he assisted the Chief in all aspects of management and was instrumental in the development of the first computerized records management system for the department. During his time as Lieutenant, he attended the 150th session of the prestigious FBI National Academy in 1987. He later served as the President of the New England Chapter of FBI National Academy graduates in 1995.

In 1994, he was promoted to Captain where he continued to assist the Chief with management of the department, to include keeping track of departmental training and preparing the annual budget.
In April 1999, he became the fourth Chief of Police in the department’s history.

Chief Moulton was highly involved in various boards and associations in his 22 years as Police Chief to include; Maine Criminal Justice Academy Board of Trustees, Maine Chiefs of Police Association Member, New England Association of Chiefs of Police member, Maine Justice Assistance Council, High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) board member, Project Grace board member, Maine School Emergency Preparedness Resource Team board member, Trauma Intervention Programs board member, Family Hope board member and the Health Safety and Security Advisor Team board member.

In 2015, Chief Moulton led the effort to launch Operation Hope, a program that served hundreds of people who struggled with substance use issues. This initiative remained at Scarborough Police Department until 2023, when it transitioned to the Portland Recovery Center.

In 2017, Chief Moulton and retired Fire Chief Mike Thurlow began the effort with town officials to build a new Public Safety Building. After three years of planning and coordination, the new building opened in April 2020.

Chief Moulton served our community for 44 years and was very well respected throughout the State of Maine and beyond for his professionalism, leadership and compassion on many issues affecting policing during his career.

Our thoughts are with Chief Moulton’s family and friends during this difficult time.

PRCC provides reentry support through several impactful programs including recovery groups and coaching in Cumberland County Jail, Recovery Rides for safe transportation from incarceration to treatment or recovery residences, and Pathways of Hope, which helps fund the first 30 days in recovery housing.

Yesterday, PRCC's Center Manager, Kristin Crowley, had the honor of speaking at the launch of "Reentry 2030" a national initiative focused on strengthening the reentry planning.

The state’s goals include:
📋Starting reentry planning at intake for every person
🏠Ending releases to homelessness
🩺Enrolling all eligible people in Medicaid
💼Ensuring 50% earn a job-ready credential and 40% complete a job interview *before* release

Together, we can help Maine ensure that every individual leaving incarceration has a fair chance to succeed!
