See this month's ACE Certified for an interview I gave on the obesity management medications.

It's a complex, and potentially harmful, thing mixing medications for weight loss with fitness culture. But at the same time they could launch millions of people on the path of movement for health and happiness.

It's very much about how approach this.

I address these thoughts and more in this interview. And you can get ACE CE credit too!

There's a nice series of no-cost webinars at for weight stigma awareness week.

Today I'm attending

The Injustice of Anti-fatness: A Diagnosis
Weight Stigma In Children and Adolescents

The fitness industry has played a role in how we view fatness and people with obesity, and there seems to be a serious animus toward them... and fat itself.

The result is sizeism and healthism, which harms people and harms the industry.

We absolutely can teach movement without demonizing fatness, and will need to shift our attitude if we want to work with people taking the weight loss medications.

Exercise, even without weight loss, is still healthy.

I did a story with this photo. Just some thoughts...

I wonder why we celebrate someone like Denise Austin as a fitness visionary, legend, leader?

If she were African American would she be famous? If she weren't conventionally attractive would we even know her name?

What if she weighed 30 or 40 more pounds?

Imagine an unattractive person doing the same videos and tv shows she did. Not going to happen is it?

List out Denise's education and certifications. Not given or listed anywhere.

She now continues objectifying women's bodies well into her 50s, reducing women and their value to how they look.

Selling hotness as 'health'.

Making women feel ashamed for how they look.

Scaring them with unscientific nonsense. Lying to them with guaranteed quick 'fixes' to made up problems with their bodies.

She represents what's wrong with the industry, in my view.

This is one of the greatest cycling performances I've ever witnessed.

Those of you who use power in your training will know how high her output was in closing the 30+ second gap... on a hill that was up to 8% grade.

Then....closing the last 6-8 seconds on a flat.

Then....rocketing away from everyone with only about 3 seconds to recover and catch her breath.

This is sustained power output that is almost unbelievable. Nobody, not a single expert or commentator, thought she would accelerate after catching the leaders. It would be impossible after what she'd just done.

Really, really inspiring.

Indoor cyclers... watch her on the climb and on the flats when she was powering to the finish. She seems relaxed, she pedaling about 93 rpm or so. And she's going really, really fast. That's what fitness and form looks like on a bike. Her upper body is calm and steady, she's pedaling beautiful smooth pedal strokes in a hard gear (heavy resistance on your indoor cycle). My guess is she's maintaining more than 250 watts in those sections but looks at ease.

Mimic that in your indoor rides and you'll get really fit.

Our Story

Revocycle Mind and Body is conscious fitness.

We’re mindful, spiritual and focused indoor cycling that provides an antidote to our distracting and stressful lives. We are not ‘Spin’, we’re the next generation cycling workout.

Our program emphasizes proper cycling form technique as a practice, and we are the first indoor cycling program in the nation to use freewheel bikes for greater safety and effectiveness. We ride with a focus on alignment and breath in order to get in to the moment. It’s about being really present, learning about ourselves, going beyond ourselves.
