Coach Dan with a reminder:

"When I stopped paying attention to what I was doing outside the gym, I felt it fast. The worst feeling? I felt soft, squishy, with ZERO energy."

I was down 20lbs, lost definition, strength and energy.

What that looked like for me:
- High miles
- Missing strength sessions
- But, the biggest impact- I was UNDER eating for my activity levels.

When you miss your protein first, fiber forward, and balancing carbs and fats to support your energy- regardless if its too much or too little-you'll see a composition change.

This past Friday, we wrapped up yet another successful Woodslawn Intramural Open.

A special thank you to Coach Ty for providing well thought out scaling options he so consistently builds into our programming. Thank you as well to Coaches Maria and Chase, who coached the majority of your classes during the Open.

And to all of our coaches James, Erik, Jonathan, Anna, Ty, Maria, and Chase thank you for the insight, encouragement, and motivation you gave to your teams, whether in WhatsApp or in person.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who participated, clapped, cheered, and supported one another throughout our annual event. Watching the excitement and encouragement for your fellow classmates is a part of what makes Woodslawn so special.

I sure do enjoy working out at Woodslawn Fitness. It has been almost three years now and I look forward to many more. You couldn't ask for a nicer group of people than the good folks at Woodslawn. Everyone is welcoming and supportive. The coaches are experienced and knowledgeable. Their instruction emphasizes correct form and safety. Workouts can be easily tailored to suit each person's needs. The facility is comfy and clean and well-stocked with an array of weights and exercise equipment. I'm glad to have Woodslawn Fitness in my neighborhood.

Meet Coach Chase

His journey to becoming a CrossFit Level 2 coach started with his own desire to improve his health and fitness. From there, he continued building his knowledge toolkit by earning his NASM personal training certification.

At Woodslawn, youโ€™ll find Chase coaching CrossFit classes, leading our Small Group Strength sessions, and working one-on-one in private training. He has a strong eye for gymnastics and Olympic lifting, and he also leads our Wednesday evening Olympic lifting class.

Two weeks ago, our Small Group Strength athletes wrapped up an 8-week focus on back squats.

The result? Stronger cores, quads, and glutes, along with huge PRs in both strength and stability in the squat position.

Now, while we canโ€™t guarantee youโ€™ll be able to perform a full split like Flavia, we can say with confidence that youโ€™ll get stronger, improve your positions, and build more confidence in your movement.

Our Small Group Strength program averages 6 members per session, allowing each athlete to receive individualized weights, progressions, and coaching every single class.

That means youโ€™re not just showing up and hoping for the best. Youโ€™re following a plan built to help you move better, get stronger, and make steady progress.

As a 45-year-old dad, husband, and business owner, I train for a lot of reasons.

This picture one of them.

Someday my kids will be stronger, faster, and fitter than me and Iโ€™m okay with that.

What Iโ€™m not okay with is being the dad who has to say no to the trail run, the hike, the backpacking trip, or helping them build something hard someday.

I highly recommend the coaches and staff at Woodslawn Fitness! After an extended break due to an injury, I've recently started working out again. The team at Woodslawn has been incredible, helping me find the right path forward and ensuring I avoid any setbacks.I completed the semi-private onramp program, and coaches Chase, Dan, and Jonathan have been fantastic. They know when to hold me back when I push too hard and encourage me when I doubt myself. Having been involved in CrossFit and functional fitness for over 15 years, I can confidently say that Woodslawn has one of the most welcoming and professional environments I've ever experienced.Update 12 months in:Still loving Woodlawn and the coaches here. I can honestly say my core is stronger than it had been in close to 20 years with the focus in the strength and conditioning classes. This has led to strength and quality of life improvements across the board!

Meet Coach Jonathan

He holds certificates both in CrossFit and Precision Nutrition, is a Pain-Free Performance Specialist, and always investing in learning beyond the floor. He also authored an article for CrossFit HQโ€™s The Professional Coach on the parallels between military leadership and coaching. Jonathan believes great coaching starts with curiosity, consistency, and helping people move and feel better for the long haul.

At Woodslawn, heโ€™s our Operations Manager, runs most of our No Sweat Intro consults, and coaches across SGS, PT, CrossFit, On-Ramp, and Nutrition, making each members experience organized, thoughtful, and fun!

Outside the gym, Jonathan trained for and completed a 50K ultramarathon last year!

Joelle came to us through a referral from one of our amazing members (thank you, Jen M! )

In her intro consult with Coach Jonathan, we learned Joelleโ€™s goal is to build strength + lean muscle and since she actually enjoys strength training, sheโ€™s a perfect fit for our 5-week Small Group Strength On-Ramp.

Iโ€™m still strongโ€ฆ but results take more intention now.
Not more intensity, more intention.

I still train the same way (strength + CrossFit + endurance)โ€ฆ
โ€ฆbut recovery and body comp come down to one thing:

Nutrition.

At 45, โ€œbeing activeโ€ doesnโ€™t cancel out poor food choices or the sneaky evening liquid ones.

Read that again!

What actually works for me:

โœ… intentional eating (especially protein)
โœ… intentional drinking (how often + how much)
โœ… moving daily, even if itโ€™s simple

Itโ€™s not easy. And itโ€™s not supposed to be.

But for my future self?
Worth it.
