NOM OF THE WEEK: MANGO ALMOND SMOOTHIE BOWL
It's almost the end of summer, but that doesn't mean it's time to give up the delicious summer fruits! All of the ingredients in this smoothie bowl are 100% healthy & extremely helpful during pregnancy.
- Mangoes: Rich in vitamin A & C! Just 1 cup of chopped mango provides 100% of the vitamin C RDA & 1/3 of the A RDA!
-Berries are a perfect source of vitamin C, healthy carbs, antioxidants, fiber & lots of water for rapid hydration!
-Almonds are the most helpful piece of this bowl! They're rich in manganese (helps regulate mom & baby weight & formation of strong, healthy bones), calcium, fiber, riboflavin, magnesium, and folate! All necessary when pregnant (and even when not pregnant!)

INGREDIENTS:
1/2 C frozen, shopped mango
1/2 C nonfat plain Greek yogurt
1/4 C frozen sliced banana
1/4 C plain unsweetened almond milk (or coconut milk if you prefer!)
5 T unsalted almonds, cut in half
1/8 t ground allspice
1/4 cup raspberries
1/2 t honey

DIRECTIONS:
Blend mango, yogurt, banana, milk, almonds, & allspice in blender until very smooth
Pour the smoothie into a bowl & top with raspberries, more almonds if you desire & honey!

MINDFUL MOMENT- CHANGE
Covid, BLM, politics, our world is incredibly chaotic & all I can hope is a great change is to follow.
Just 8 months ago, we were ringing in 2020 expecting the new decade to bring forth new change and maybe we pushed a little too hard, but the chaos we've brought onto our plates is just the beginning. All great change is always preceded by chaos & taking the time to recognize the good changes happening in the world & your own life will bring a new light to the negativity strewn across the media. Think of the positives surfacing & trust yourself to know how to help further a positive movement

Lemon Balm (Melissa Officinalis) is just one of my favorite herbs I have growing in my garden. Not only does it smell amazingly minty but it's also tasty & useful!
It's main claim to fame is it's usefulness in anxiety. It has carminative properties to heal digestive problems (especially due to nervousness/anxiety), it can be used for colds, migraines, insomnia, depression & hypertension (once again, especially when associated with stress).
Recent studies have found it able to treat herpes when applied topically!
People most helped by this plant present with stress, anxiety, restlessness, palpitation, hypertension, headaches, depression & irritability.
In times of COVID-19, we all have a bit of anxiety, anger, depression, misunderstandings, insomnia, etc... Lemon balm can be taken in a tea, tincture, or juiced & both fresh & dry plant material work equally well!
Contraindicated in hypothyroidism & during pregnancy.

THE MORE YOU KNOW- H***N EDITION.
The "h***n myth" is extensive; it has invaded our education, our media, and our world as a whole. The fact of the matter is, everything you think you know about the h***n, is probably incorrect... so erase everything you know & listen up!
1. The closest thing in your h***n repertoire that is true is that the h***n CAN break & be painful during s*x because it's not used to being stretched.
2. The h***n can self-heal. If it breaks or tears, it doesn't stay broken forever. Your va**na doesn't have a "freshness seal". What happens with regular pe*******on is that it grows more flexible from continuous stretching. Once a woman reaches the end of adolescence (~25 years), it typically atrophies & is no longer visible (if it was even visible at all)
3. It doesn't typically bleed. Bleeding comes from va**nal tearing due to a lack of lubrication.
4. There are different types of h***ns! Some women are born with no h***n at all! Some women are born with imperforate h***ns (a thin but solid membrane covering the va**nal opening) or microperforate h***ns (tiny holes in an otherwise solid membrane). Some women have septate h***ns which are like a strand of tissue spanning the length of the va**na. Some are durable, some are fragile. Some go away, others stay post menopause.

The intact h***n = virginity theory is entirely made up. The world saw a "barrier" covering the va**na and decided it was a solid way to control & devalue women. Don't let myths & cultural relevancy impact your physical well being.
