💛 School Lunch Hero Day – May 1st 💛

On Friday we celebrate the incredible School Lunch Heroes who show up every day to nourish, care for, and support our students across Portland Public Schools.

From preparing healthy meals, serving with a smile, and keeping our cafeterias running smoothly—our Nutrition Services staff are true heroes behind the scenes. Their work helps ensure students are fed, cared for, and ready to learn each day.

We are so grateful for the dedication, teamwork, and heart they bring to every school meal served. Thank you for all you do! 👏

Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) in our schools 🥝

FFVP has long been part of our nutrition education efforts, helping students at 23 schools try a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables during the school day, along with simple learning handouts. This week’s school menu is packed with tasty options to keep our students fueled and ready to learn!

Breakfast:
Monday – Ham & Cheese Croissant
Tuesday – Honey Cheerios Cereal
Wednesday – Vanilla Cream Filled Breadstick
Thursday – Bagel Bites with Cream Cheese

Lunch:
Monday – Pasta with Mozzarella or Meatballs
Tuesday – Chicken Tenders
Wednesday – Brunch for Lunch (a student favorite!)
Thursday – Cheese or Pepperoni Pizza

We’re proud to offer meals that students enjoy while supporting their health and learning throughout the day. As part of our participation in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), all students receive one free breakfast and one free lunch each school day!

Check out these great photos from our Nutrition Services teams—featuring pizza from Cesar Chavez School and flavorful vegetable dumplings and chicken sandwiches from MLC. It’s always exciting to see the variety of meals our students get to enjoy each day!

This week’s menu brought a lot of flavor and variety to our cafeterias! From savory teriyaki tofu with brown rice, Korean BBQ mushrooms, to a fun brunch-for-lunch day and delicious mushroom pizza, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Mushrooms are also our April Harvest of the Month, and we loved featuring them in multiple meals across the week!
