The power of emotional wintering is essential for our wellness.
When I read this beautiful book in manuscript last year, I never could’ve imagined how appropriate it would be for the winter of 2020, when it was destined to be published. WINTERING is a thoughtful, elegant memoir and treatise about how to survive the hardest seasons of our life — times of sickness, loss, grieving, depression, hopelessness. Seasons where, as writes, your leaves fall off, and your bare bones show. We live in a culture that tries very hard to pretend that emotional winters are not real… That you can always find the sun and the good cheer, no matter what. And that sorrow is a kind of weakness. But as Katherine May explains, winter is natural — both in the outside world, and in our own lives. Learning how to “winter” is necessary in order to lead a rich and soulful life. So much of the world is facing a particularly scary winter right now, and this book can be a beautiful guide for how to not only survive it, but learn how to find the hidden treasures within the bleakest months of our lives. Sending you all a lot of love…we will come through. ❤️
