We are so thrilled to be adding a new Board Member to Healthy Living Community's team!

Meet Rafael Gutierrez Barajas, also known as Raf, a dedicated advocate for compassionate, community-centered healthcare. Originally from Northern California's Wine Country and born in Baja California, Mexico, Rafael brings over 15 years of experience in Health Care Administration and Patient Advocacy from the San Francisco Bay Area to Portland, Oregon, his adopted home since

2017. Throughout his career, Rafael has worked to support individuals facing complex economic, social, and medical needs, dedicating himself to enhancing accessibility and quality of care.

In his personal life, Rafael enjoys the vibrant outdoors of the Pacific Northwest through hiking, cooking, and home improvement projects. He also shares his passion for wine and regional flavors with his partner and their two dogs. As a new Board Member at Healthy Living Community, Rafael is excited to further his commitment to supporting diverse communities and creating meaningful impact for those in need.

Healthy Living Community is lucky to have Raf on our Board and we can't wait to bring his dynamism and wisdom to our team!

We had such a sweet little open house yesterday at our clinic, Healthy Living Community. I just want to take a moment to deeply honor these three phenomenally wise, knowledgeable, and nurturing primary care and mental health providers.

Dr. Megan Golani , Windy Lyle, FNP, and Dr. M Whitacre are such a foundational part of what makes our clinic so strong. We have many members come to our clinic with complex medical challenges, medical trauma, many forms of marginalization and othering. We hold all of the heaviness that we do as patients, and to have it be met with such profound humanity and integrity is really part of the healing process. These three providers see the profoundness of each lived experience that people hold and first and foremost see the whole human and make space for it all to unfold. Then collaboratively, with the member and with our team, work integratively to find solid next steps.

I’m beyond grateful to know and work with these three incredible providers and humans to help continue to uplift and make this nonprofit clinic possible

🥹We fell in love with a cat. While HLC is a nonprofit clinic for humans we love little furballs, too. One our members spotted Ms. Momo hiding behind our tree in front of the clinic. We were able to get in touch with her human who was thrilled that Momo was found after THREE WEEKS! Momo made our day and we wanted to share the love 😻(photos shared with permission of Momo happily back home).

It is hard to navigate a big & fast health system that doesn't often make space for listening. It is such a different experience to have a small team of integrative practitioners who deeply hear our members and are motivated to support.
