Dharma nugget for the week ๐ŸŒŸ What is pervasive suffering?

Pervasive suffering is simply the contaminated aggregates of samsaric beings. For example, when we take rebirth as a human we take on human aggregates, when we take rebirth as an animal we take on animal aggregates, and when we take rebirth as a god we take on god aggregates.

If we take on human aggregates we have no choice but to experience the sufferings of the human realm, if we take on animal aggregates we have no choice but to experience the sufferings of the animal realm, and if we take on god aggregates we have no choice but to experience the sufferings of the god realms.

All the different types of suffering in samsara arise from samsaric aggregates just as waves arise from an ocean, therefore samsaric aggregates themselves are pervasive suffering.

For as long as we remain with contaminated aggregates, whether we abide in the highest god realms or the deepest hell, we will attract suffering just as a magnet attracts iron. If we cling to samsaric aggregates we will take rebirth in samsara, and if we take rebirth in samsara we will experience suffering.

Therefore the real object to be avoided is samsaric aggregates, and it is these that the mind of renunciation seeks to abandon. As Geshe Potowa says:

It is not sickness and death I fear so much as samsaric rebirth.โ€

Happy Tara Day!
The female Buddha of active compassion who, as the manifestation of the ultimate wisdom of all the Buddhas, is known as the "Mother of the Conquerors." She is also known as the "Great Liberator" who pacifies all sickness, poverty, misfortune, fighting, and quarreling, and causes the Dharma and all good fortune to flourish. Her green-colored body symbolizes that she is also the manifestation of the fully purified wind element of all the Buddhas, and like the wind is quick to respond to the prayers of those in need. Her right leg extended also indicates her readiness to help others. This painting shows Tara seated on a lotus arising from a lake. It is said that when Buddha Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of Compassion, saw the immensity of suffering in the world he started crying, and Tara was born from a lotus that arose from his lake of tears.
