We often get busy with life and all its responsibilities that we forget what is really important. I'm here to remind you that your health and happiness are very important. Make the time to play, laugh, and feel joy this holiday season and every season.

"Matt at Oregon Exercise Therapy helped me see that my body alignment was off, that my injuries had begun a cascade of misalignments that resulted in pain in areas of my body that had not been originally injured. Matt gave me personalized series of exercises that helped correct the alignment issues. I have become an advocate for Oregon Exercise Therapy. In fact, two of my children, high school athletes with years of old sports injuries, are now working out at Oregon Exercise Therapy. They've seen performance improvements and have been relieved of back and knee pain from football and track injuries." - Vicki

Injuries and pain are not caused by a single incident, but rather the accumulation of imbalance, dysfunction, accidents, habits over time (often years or decades). The elimination of pain and injuries is a process that takes time but yields amazing results. Give yourself the gift of a healthy pain free body this holiday season. Contact me for a free posture evaluation on Zoom and let's get started!

Which back muscles are most responsible for maintaining upright posture and preventing things like forward head posture?

It might not be what you think. New research by Nakahira, Y., Iwamoto, M., Igawa, T. et al. published in Nature showed that the longissimus thoracis, multifidus, psoas, and iliacus muscles are most responsible for upright posture.

Does this change what you thought?

Iliacus and psoas major are two of the most important muscles in the human body. They are responsible for stabilizing the femur, pelvis, and lumbar spine which is the foundation to the body. Without good psoas and iliacus strength and function, the spine is not held upright and things like kyphosis, forward head posture, and rounded shoulders will start to happen. These can lead to lots of types of pain including headaches, neck pain, herniated discs, rotator cuff tears, and back pain.

New research, with advanced computer modeling, has just shown how important the psoas and iliacus are to preventing upper body posture problems like forward head. Learn more here:
