Happy first day back to fall classes for our first year OT students!
We thought they might enjoy a brief intro to two faculty members who were not part of their first semester curriculum, but they will be learning from this semester - Dr. Kris Winston and Professor Jessica Walton

Congratulations to the Class of 2027 who just completed their first semester in the OT program here at UNE. We closed out the semester in Foundations with a community potluck meal, reflective writing, concept mapping (shown here) and a visit from Arameh Anvarizadeh, the new AOTA President. Dr. Anvarizadeh provided inspirational "nuggets" along with actionable steps that can help us grow our sense of community and belonging. We so appreciate her taking time out of her busy schedule to share her passion and vision with us. The students have come a long way from the first images we took of them, and we cannot wait to see how the remainder of their time here unfolds. Happy break everyone. See you at the end of August when we launch semester #2!

So proud of our second-year Occupational Therapy students for hosting the second annual UNE OT Health & Wellness Fair designed specifically for older adults. They provided valuable health education and community engagement with the residents of The Park Danforth in Portland, and were able to practice the skills they will use in their upcoming fieldwork semesters of their studies.

Congratulations to the MSOT Class of 2026 on their insightful poster presentations on emerging or under-represented areas of occupational therapy practice! Students chose topics based on their interests, passions, and desired future careers, resulting in huge variety of fields such as the role of occupational therapy within Hospice Care, Climate-Related Disaster Recovery, Youth Aging Out of Foster Care, Accessible Travel, and Home Design and Construction.

Year I students in Dr. Lambdin-Pattavina's Foundations of Occupational Therapy course had the opportunity to interview diverse practitioners. These practitioners offered a variety of perspectives that invited students to reflect on their own biases and the role that diversity plays in terms of equitable access to quality healthcare. Students also explored diversity relative to the development of one's professional identity. The project culminated in a poster presentation that engaged the UNE community in a rich learning experience. Thank you to the practitioners who gave so freely of their time to mentor the next generation of occupational therapy practitioners. Adam, Aldrige, Hamed, Johnson, Lavalley, Lyons, Pagpatan, Reyes Smith, Twinley
